The first (original) Arthur movie is a classic. It has so many quotable lines. Dudley Moore was at his peak here. And John Gielgud was amazing as Hobson. The sequel was quite a letdown. Many scenes give the impression that the filmmakers were trying too hard to capture the spirit of the original, but they fell short. I doubt I'll re-watch the second movie again any time soon. But anytime I want to watch a movie just for laugh-out-loud enjoyment, the first (original) Arthur is one I'll go to.

Very good movie. Sutherland was great (as usual), and Duvall and Caine were also very good. A very entertaining war movie.

Gail Stanwyk: John who?

Fletch: John Cock... tos... ton.

Gail Stanwyk: That's a beautiful name.

Fletch: Well, it's Scotch/Romanian.

Gail Stanwyk: That's an odd combination.

Benigni is a genius. Parts of this movie are very touching and others totally hilarious. This is definitely Roberto's masterpiece.

While Henry Fonda and Hepburn are great, this movie isn't holding up well, in my opinion. I loved it when it came out, but it doesn't seem as special now. It seems more like a glorified TV special than a movie. I'm not a fan of Jane Fonda, and her performance here doesn't change my mind about her. McKeon's performance isn't anything special either, but he holds up OK next to Henry and Kate. And Dabney Coleman is pretty cool in most of his roles, here included.
But Henry Fonda and Katherine Hepburn are great, as expected. I still dig this movie just for their performances. I'm a big fan of both of them, so when this movie first came out, I was excited to see them together. I hadn't seen the movie again for many years, but despite the cheesiness the movie seems to have now, Henry and Kate still shine through amazingly. I can't say this is the best movie either of them made, but they each did a great job in it, and I'm happy to own a copy.

I hadn't been a fan of Laughton, but he totally won me over here. His banter with Lanchester is very entertaining. Dietrich is great as always. I'm not impressed with Power's performance, but it doesn't take away from the rest of the movie. It's a classic.
