Unlike Brad, I NEVER watched the original show, but got this DVD as part of a "package" for a multi-order. Gave it a "what the heck!" watch yesterday and found myself REALLY enjoying this one! Its definitely a "tongue-in-cheek/ballz-to-the-wallz" action/comedy IMO. Some unbelievable & exaggerrated stuff, but I watch movies to be entertained, even if it isn't completely believeable at times. The 4 cast members really meshed well. LOVED Murdock! That guy is friggin' NUTS!!!!
Note: fans of the show should watch for the scene AFTER the end credits!

Read the book but (unfortunately), didn't go see this in theaters since the trailers didn't convince me and the director's other work (like 'Wanted') didn't give me high hopes...shame on me! Bought the 3D Blu Ray this Black Friday and watched it today in 3D and full surround sound...WOW! Starts off a bit on the slow side, but like the novel, has to set up WHY 'ol Abe is a vamp hunter. Once things start going they start going. Definitely a popcorn movie, but nothing wrong with that! It was a blast! The 3D really stands out during the train climax, so 3D owners will really get a kick out of that sequence. I'm just sorry I didn't go watch this in the theaters!

This movie doesn't break the "slasher" horror mold in any way, but if you can forgive some of the cheese FX/Makeup, cliche college kid "stupidity" and thin plot, its not halfbad. Definitely inspired by 'Hills Have Eyes' and 'Wrong Turn', nonetheless, the flick has decent kills, gore and intense moments. The DVD also has a nice "Making of" just south of 30 minutes, cast & crew bios, REAL LIFE Albino Farm notes (short, but interesting) and trailers make this a worthy pick up.

About the only bad thing about this movie is the title, 'Alien Raiders' sounds so GENERIC! Sounds like something from that ripoff studio 'The Asylum' or a Public Domain Dollar Store movie, but this is from Raw Feed studios, the guys that brought interesting straight-to-DVD horror fair like Rest Stop, Believers & Otis! Best I can describe this movie is John Carpenter's 'The Thing', Frank Darabont's 'The Mist' with a speck of 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' thrown in a blender and out comes...Alien Raiders?!? This flick will keep you guessing who's "infected" throughout. High recommend!

A definite "overlooked" gem, I can't compare it to the manga/anime its based on, but I CAN say as a standalone movie, this movie was very enjoyable. Actually has a very sad premise which I will NOT reveal here (so don't ask) for a "kid's" movie. A warm, touching story similar to Pinocchio combined with lots of action sequences will keep the kids (and adults...like ME) happily entertained!

Pretty moody, but predictable, horror movie from the director of Final Destination 2 & 4. I'd say this is Nightmare On Elm Street meets The Grudge...which is not a BAD combo. Crazy ghost of an ex-Asylum Doctor feeds off college student's worse fears. Not a terrible way to spend 90 something minutes.

I found this movie to be pretty intense in its subject matter (a suicidal cult) with a bit of a "twist". Well acted, well directed, decently written. I like the occasional "gritty" look of these Raw Feed films and this is no exception. I found the ending pretty creepy, but can't say I didn't see it coming a mile away. worth a view!

Finally got around to watching my Blu Ray of Blow and gotta tell ya, GREAT flick, GREAT Blu Ray! Was expecting an artsy, drug dealing drama and what I got was indeed a drama, but an involved and detailed true story of George Jung, a young man's rise from a standard marijuana dealer and eventually supplying cocaine to the entire West Coast of the U.S., to his eventual fall. Very good storytelling and I admit, I was sucked in but some great direction and great acting (except for Penelope Cruz, she just came off annoying). Blu Ray also contains a conversation with the REAL life George Jung as well as plenty of deleted scenes and an interesting documentary on the cocaine war in Columbia. I was anticipating watching this and flipping the Blu Ray on this site, but I liked it so much, I think I'll keep it (sorry).

I'm with Brittni on this one...this movie is HORRID! The main actress is ANNOYING & comes off really STUPID trying to pull off the "dual personality" thing..she won't be winning any awards anytime soon, its all over the place, yet has a lot of "filler" scenes that don't really go anywhere & its OVERLY long at nearly 1 hour & 50 minutes (felt more like 4 hours to me)...I almost didn't wanna FINISH this movie..something I haven't done since the dawn of DVD, but finished it anyway thinking maybe it would have some redeeming qualities...it never happened.
Skip this one if you can. I'd rather see Kane Hodder in Jason X THREE times in a ROW before I'd ever pop this one in my player again.

The Box works as a short story. This full length "bore" of a movie falls short, decent performances by Marsden & Langella, but that alone can't save this film...by the time the "twist" is revealed, there's a good chance you would've lost interest in this film by then & probably don't care.
Picture wise, the film looks IMMACULATE on Blu Ray...captures the 70s vibe of the film very well. Too bad the movie itself is well below average.

Fair warning though, Sacha certainly does push the envelope in this one...moreso then in Borat & Ali G Indahouse: The Movie is a family Disney movie compared to this one. This is one of those movies you either love or hate, no in-betweens. Sacha has to be the bravest man in Hollywood to do some of the things he does in this movie! This is the type of movie I enjoy watching on a sleepless night for some genuine B-movie "creepiness". the movie is definitely dated (gotta love 70s fashion) and the low budget is quite obvious, but it works and is better then 70% of today's zombie movies! Despite having its share of dialogue, the movie was never boring, you genuinely care for the characters and considering the budget around $12 million (compared to $200+ mil for a movie like Avengers), the special effects work and PROPEL the story rather then distract (ya listening Lucas?..probably not...lol) The climax simply blew me away and had me at the edge of my seat. Dead Riot & Flesh for the Beast, both presented 'Unrated' & on seperate discs (cleverly presented as "Reel's 1 & 2") on both given the "Grindhouse" treatment...meaning they were made dirty on purpose, complete with lines, specks & print damage, they also include the Grindhouse intros & multiple trailers. This is worth owning if you appreciate the 70s/early 80s era vibe. 'Beast' probably benefits from the workover.
Only negative I can give is that there are NO menus on either disc, only Dead Riot has a 'listen with Grindhouse audience' option at the beginning.

Easily one of my FAVORITE horror movies to come out in the past 10 years! its saying a lot, but its true. I think many are swayed the other way with their opinion because, despite it being directed by James Wan who made the gruesome & trend-setting "Saw", its NOTHING like that movie. This movie is all about the atmosphere, the music and the creeps with dolls & evil ghosts...not gruesome kills & buckets of blood. Even the opening takes a note from Universal Studios' Golden Age of horror films of yesteryear. Great atmospheric movie! Don't listen to most "haters"...see it for yourself & formulate your own opinion.

This was supposed to be Toho's "final" Godzilla movie during the Showa era so as to give the Big G a long hiatus, but it did so well at the box office, he got a few more movies after. The definition of B-movie if there ever was one, aliens steal giant monsters & take over the world...using cheesy effects to boot. Unfortunately, ADV's DVD has NO extras...in fact, NO MENU...that's right, movie just plays straight away. A shame considering the greatness they achieved with the Gamera Heisei trilogy. ADV is no more so there's no one to complain to anyway.
A must see for any giant monster fan!

Rewatched this over the weekend and have to say, I think this movie doesn't quite achieve success MAINLY because of its two leads...Diego Luna is a good actor, don't get me wrong, but unfortunately, he seems miscast here, and hardly has Swayze's captivating dance skills...and as a Moderate Latin dancer myself (I hold my own pretty well..lol), that's saying a lot. The actress looks and acts like she was cut out of a slice of bread. She CANNOT hold a movie on her own. The highlight of this film is DEFINITELY the soundtrack (yes, I own it) and gets 2 stars on that alone. Bottom line, you're better off revisiting the original Dirty Dancing.

I think the MAIN problem with this movie was the SCRIPT. The special effects were top notch & the directing was "average"...but some of the dialogue that comes out of these people mouths....eeeep! They were also poorly edited together...I mean the beginning of the movie goes to present day, to a flash back (15 years ago), to yet (you guessed it), ANOTHER flashback to 3000 B.C. or something (can't remember)...not well thought out. The kiddies should LOVE all the dragon mayhem, it rivals the SFX from any expensive Hollywood movie, unfortunately, the story is weak beyond repair...but a very young mind might not care. No blood, no gore, no sex, lots of dragons, lots of EXPLOSIONS! I'd say it is a cross between the 1998 Roland Emmerich Godzilla movie & the live action Master of the Universe flick (starring Dolph Lundgren)...and just as cheesy as both too!

I think this film needs to be approached with a "Drive-In audience" mindset. This film was made in the early 70s with short-attention span & perhaps, overly hormonal teens in mind. Its short and the action/murders come in quick spurts throughout. The "management announcement" at the end of the movie would've been cool to hear at an actual Drive-In back in the day. This DVD also contains a trailer for this movie, plus cool retro Drive-In commercials & trailers, including a spot for refreshments & for something I've never heard of: a Bernz-O-Matic, for keeping you "heated" on those cold, chilly nights at the Drive-In. This movie definitely lives up to the distributor's name, "Cheezy Flicks", cause its CHEESY as all HECK!

This show is ADDICTING! I happened to blind buy the 1st season at a flea market for $2 (no foolin') & had to see what happened in this 2nd season. This time Kenny "La Flama Blanca" Powers (LOL) is in Mexico, trying to find himself & his self worth, but hilarity ensues every bit as much as the 1st season. I gotta tell ya, Kenny is an A-hole, but just like the 1st go round, found myself rooting for him by the last few episodes. Lots of high profile cameos & a mouth on this guy that makes you wanna go to confession after watching! If you've never seen this show, I INSIST you seek it out! Now I gotta seek out the 3rd and (sadly) final season.

Words cannot describe the TRAVESTY that is 'El Cantante'...what is supposed to be a biopic of famous Salsa singer Hector Lavoe is nothing more then J.Lo's attempt to TRY to show off her acting chops (key word = TRY).
What I thought was going to be a movie about the life & times of Hector Lavoe (someone my parents grew up listening to) was more the life & times of PUCHY (J.Lo) around Hector...FAIL! J.Lo tries TOO hard & lays the dialogue TOO thick to be believable...she really hams it up! A shame cause she seldom gives hubby Marc a chance to shine as the titular character, but then again, she produced this turd, so no surprise there! Notice during every musical number by hubby Marc, the camera pans back to her every 5-12 seconds, either dancing, looking-on, angry, picking her nose, something, ANYTHING (annoying). At the end of the film all we know of Hector Lavoe is he sang & he did drugs...that's IT...not spoiling it for you...if you NEVER heard of Hector Lavoe, that's all you'll know when the credits start to roll. This is DEFINITELY not on par with 'Ray', 'Walk the Line' or even 'Walk Hard: the Dewey Cox Story' (lol)
One of the few redeeming qualities of this film is the SOUNDTRACK! Marc is no Hector Lavoe, but his voice & the new arrangements are simply astounding & (as a latin) I can't help but start dancing in my seat whenver I hear one of the songs. A shame the movie is a total stinker!
To add insult to injury, now that Oscar time is upon us, J.Lo openly admitted recently to a celebrity gossip magazine she was "snubbed" for an Oscar! Excuse me while I go upchuck.
if your curious to see J.Lo hog the spotlight & act like Rosie Perez on speed, THIS is your MOVIE!

This movie is WILD!...pretty scary in a lot of parts too. A crazy religious group goes nuts when told its 'Armageddon' & they must commit murders (with a unique weapon, crosses that also double as knives), & all this in order to 'save' humanity. A very unique twist is in store at the end which leaves you thinking...high recommend.

First off, this is NOT a Troma movie...its a 1979/1980 Italian produced 'Women In Prison' exploitation film Troma licensed for DVD release, similar to the many Shriek Show, Grindhouse Releasing and Anchor Bay (at least the OLD Anchor Bay) DVD released over the years.
If old-skool Grindhouse, Women In Prison exploitation flicks, complete with over-the-top English dubbing, rape and borderline porn is your thing (I have no doubt for one scene the "actress" performs actual fellatio on one of the guards), this is the film for you.

It took a little getting used to and its sometimes a bit "confusing" when you don't truly know what's going on, but all in all an enjoyable horror romp. Its 'Joyride' meets 'The Mangler'. Plenty of blood, guts and a hot sex scene for you horror nuts that need those things in your horror movies (lol). Not a terrible way to spend 90+ minutes!

Good drama! Greg Kinnear really shows his acting chops. his character is a little TOO overly obsessive (and due to this his family suffers), but its part of what makes the movie. Worth checking out.

This movie is goin on 16 years old & still manages to make me laugh out loud, make me cry, make me cringe (the war scenes), then make me cry again! this movie made me a Tom Hanks fan for life! One of the few movies that has a little bit of EVERYTHING...comedy, drama, action, special effects...you name it (no giant robots taking over the world though).
If you call yourself a movie fan, this is a 'must see'!

I kept hearing and reading how "good" this movie is, so I finally gave in & rented it...maybe my expectations were through the roof, but I was sorely disappointed. Granted the scary "Alien" scenes ARE scary, but they are too few & far between. Its more of a slow family drama with too many therapy sessions and a very slow build up with a "so-so" climax. if your in the mood for a slow burner with more effective "creepiness", you're better off watching "Paranormal Activity".

![]() ![]() | Fright Night 2: New Blood (2013) Actors: Will Payne, Sean Power, Chris Waller Release Year: 2013 Date: 12/30/2013 11:04 ET |
I'm a HUGE fan of the original 1985 Fright Night & to a lesser extent, the 1989 sequel. The remake was....OK. neither hate it or love it, but this one...well. Its made on a shoe string budget which always hurts a flick IMO. But the decision by the filmmakers to YET AGAIN remake the original Fright Night instead of make a sequel to the Colin Farrell starrer...I don't get that! Jerry Dandridge has been renamed "Gerri" (clever) and is pretty much a "do over" on the whole "nobody believes this chick is a vampire til they start dying" bit. dissapointing. If I had to pick ONE positive, its the always beautiful Jaime Murray as the vampire villian. She very nearly holds the entire film together. Unfortunately, the choice for Peter Vincent (Sean Power), pretty much negates that positive.
