There are a lot of great movies in this set! I love the collections that squeeze in many for only a few credits and feel like it's a bargain with plenty to watch for days (or nights). These movies are on 3 disks with 4 movies on one side so easier to handle than those on both sides!
Personal Effects stars Michelle Pheiffer, Ashton Kutcher, and Kathy Bates and is a tight thriller. The Leading Man stars Jon Bon Jovi. Bruno stars Shirley McLane and Gary Sinise. Living in Peril stars Rob Lowe and James Belushi. These are just examples of the quality of actors and films contained in this great set!

Some may call this a "typical" Stephen King flick based on a story by King and there's nothing wrong with that at all! Consistently suspenseful writing that keeps the reader/viewer on the edge of their seat is what makes for great story telling, and that is what Stephen King is best at! The cast of John Cusack, Mary McCormack, and (not enough of) Samuel L. Jackson entertain us thoroughly as we learn what goes on in room 1408.

What a fun movie! This is what we used to go to watch on the big screen because there is so much action packed footage (think enormous Ferris wheel rolling off into the Pacific Ocean)! Now that many of us have a “big screen” in our homes we can enjoy this historic but somewhat convoluted view into the past sitting on our duffs at home.
1941 includes some lengthy interviews with the likes of Steven Spielberg (director) as well as Bob Gale and Bob Zemeckis (co-writers) plus John Milius (co-writer and executive producer). They try to explain the madness that became one of their finest works… 1941.
I loved this movie many years ago and now appreciate it even more with a more adult sense of humor. It’s hard to see John Belushi without hurting at his loss as he could have had so much more to offer! Treat Williams, Tim Matheson, and Dan Aykroyd are always fun to watch and Robert Stack and Toshiro Mifune show they have much more than just a serious actor inside them! This is a long film at nearly 2 and a half hours but the time flies by believe me!

Wow what a cast! This is a "black comedy" filled with twists and turns. Glenne Headly is great although barely recognizable at first. Paul Mazursky stands out as a director/writer with suicidal tendencies and a gun loaded with only one bullet that helps everyone out at the end. Jeff Daniels and Eric Stoltz are a pair of bumbling cops who want to be more in a valley filled with nut cases! Watch it and you'll fall in love with them all.

Action packed all the way thru makes for an entertaining evening with this scary scenario! John Cusack and Amanda Peet along with (Bad guy) Oliver Platt offer up great performances as well as Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years A Slave). Woody Harrelson does what Woody does so well... is crazy as a loon yet knows more than most about what is happening! Enjoy!

I had the unique opportunity to check out a true classic movie then watch a remake of that film recently.
3:10 to Yuma is a great movie starring Glenn Ford and Van Heflin from 1957 and it was remade (50 years later) in 2007 starring Russell Crowe and Christian Bail.
The dialog is often word for word and the story line in the remake follows the original pretty closely. The acting in both is superb! This made for me an interesting comparison of two great films with super writing, acting, direction (James Mangold), and great scenery (filmed in New Mexico). The first is in black and white and still is fabulous to watch. The remake was filmed in color and includes extras on the DVD. I highly recommend watching both films to see how much movie making has changed in 50 years (not so much). There is implied sex in the original that is further implied in the remake and language is “modern�.

This four movie set starring Richard Gere is an amazing find! He is super sexy and an especially good actor and each of these films showcases his talents very well! Having never seen Sommersby or Nights in Rodanthe before I loved both because they offer a different perspective on the character. In nights in Rodanthe we find Gere's character, a doctor, spends time in a quaint Inn on the east coast of North Carolina where Diane Lane is house sitting for a friend. The worked together quite well (steamily) in the film Unfaithful. Nights is based on a book by Nicholas Sparks (great writer). Sommersby is another romance movie, this time pairing Gere with Jodie Foster. Richard Gere is Jack Sommersby who returns from the Civil War after having been thought dead. Is he really Jack or an imposter? It's exciting to find out. American Gigolo and An Officer and a Gentleman are among my favorite movies of all time anyhow so this entire set is now on my “view often� list. The only one this set is missing is Yanks but then I already have that one. Enjoy!

This is a fabulous set! Four movies starring the outstanding Samuel L. Jackson including Black Snake Moan a controversial film. Then you have Snakes on a Plane which is fun and scary and full of really slithery snakes of many types. The Negotiator includes Kevin Spacey, another great actor, on negotiating deals. Finally there is my personal favorite... Rules of Engagement, from Viet Nam to modern warfare Sam is a hero all the way!

A really nice collection of four films with "attitude". Starring Morgan Freeman and Charles Durning Attica tells of the actual rioting at Attica State Correctional in 1971. Many injustices were bestowed on prisoners back when and after the lessons learned at Attica much was changed. Taking Back Our Town is a moving story heard of far too often on this planet.... of ignorance and greed taking advantage of innocent families with mishandling of chemicals resulting in many deaths. Stars Laura Innes and Ruby Dee. Ripple Effect again explores mans mistakes drastically altering peoples lives. Stars Forest Whitaker and Virginia Madson. Also well worth watching is Go Tell It On The Mountain with Ruby Dee in an adaptation of a James Baldwin beloved novel. Four movies on one disk but it works very well and a bargain!

This awesome set of War movies is a great find!
Wake Island (1942) tells of bravery in spite of insurmountable odds and explains why we ultimately win when put to the test of war.
Audie Murphy started out a war hero and turned into an excellent actor but the story of his WWII experiences is very interesting and historic in To Hell And Back (1955).
Battle Hymn (1955) is perhaps a bit more of a romantic movie but remains a top action war movie with big names and lots of noise.
Gray Lady Down is a bit newer (1977) but again shows the bravery of our fighting men and how technology helps get the job done.
Each of these movies has great casting and top quality writing based on true events that occurred during distant conflicts.

For a way to spend a few nights being scared (a little) and just plain enjoying fun films this 4 movie set is well worth the purchase! I especially enjoyed Ssssss because of Strother Martin and the ball that homes in on folks is as scary in Phantasm II as it was in the original which scared the pants off me way back when! Enjoy!

4 Hilarious movies in one package! Plenty of laughs from the likes of Woody Harrelson, Danny DeVito, Kathy Bates, Jeff Bridges, Joe Pantoliano, and Aaron Eckhart kept me entertained for several nights!

42 is a fantastic look into the great All-American sport of Baseball! It is also a sad commentary on racism and prejudice here in America. Jackie Robinson (Chadwick Boseman) had the inner strength and the pure talent to win over the nation and come out a hero. From WWII battlefields to the racial wars at home in America, Jackie Robinson proved to the world that it is what is inside a man (or woman) that counts, not the color of their skin. The best quote from this great movie has to be Do you want a player who doesn't have the guts to fight back? No, I want a player who has the guts NOT to fight back!
With my sermon over I now rave about how great this movie really is, whether or not you are a baseball fan!
Chadwick Boseman is a relative newcomer to the world of big movies as most of his acting history was on the small screen before 42. Boseman (born in 1982) cut his acting chops in small roles on TV series including Justified, CSI New York, Detroit 1-8-7, Castle, Fringe. His first roles were in All My Children and Third Watch in 2003. He will be around a long long time! Harrison Ford also has a significant role in 42 although he is barely recognizable as Branch Rickey, the man who had faith in a young black rookie from the Negro leagues and gave Jackie Robinson (and baseball) a shot at future luminescence! At just over two hours this is one of those films that never has slow or boring moments but rather keeps viewers watching and enjoying every moment!
This is the Combo Pack which includes the Blu-Ray plus a DVD plus the Ultraviolet which allows a great streaming copy of the movie, transferable to an Android or iPhone, etc.

Christopher Walken is lots of fun in this cute movie! He is the ultimate con man who convinces his son to drive him across country for a very questionable treatment for the cancer in his brain (supposedly a tumor). What is real and what is BS is up to us, the viewers to decide. I just decided it was fun learning how to travel for around $5 a day! Don't try this at home!

This movie is what movies should be! Entertaining and very thoughtful with wonderful casting and a great story line. Moving is always a problem and moving in New York City can be harrowing to say the least. What do you do when you have lived in one place for 40 years? Move or stay out your time on this planet in the same place you fell in love with? Absolutely heart felt and dearly written acted and felt (by me)!

Wonderful film with a sweet story about life and growing old together. Morgan Freeman (always in top form) and Diane Keaton are a long time married couple who must decide whether to sell their valuable Brooklyn apartment to move "up" to Manhattan or not. Many flights of stairs and their elderly dog do not help in the decision. Fun to see how it's done in the big city from the perspective of one who lives in the Midwest in a more normal neighborhood.

Action starring an amazingly dangerous Roy Scheider (Jaws) and Dorian Harewood (Assault on Precinct 13)as the hero of the story. Also A Father's Revenge with Brian Dennehy, a father pursuing kidnappers of his daughter half way around the world! Most of these are made for TV movies but with great casting and writing!

Thoroughly engrossing movie! This is not about porn nor is pornography even shown in this movie so if you’re afraid it might be offensive in that respect don’t worry. But it is about the “snuff” film industry which is even sicker and more dangerous… if that’s possible. Nick Cage gave an Oscar winning performance in 8MM that is superior to his Leaving Las Vegas role in my opinion! He never disappoints!
James Gandolfini plays a really creepy character (he’s really good at that!) in the “industry” and Joaquin Phoenix proves once again he should stick to acting rather than music. Overall this movie is highly entertaining with plenty of plot twists, action, and a surprise ending.

American Dreamz is entertaining especially due to the stellar cast! With so many competition games around now this one fits right in and brings new meaning to what is actually called talent! Willam DaFoe is hilarious as the Presidential advisor (to Dennis Quaid).
About a Boy is a fun film definitely of the British persuasion when it comes to comedy!

Anthony Quinn was a long time favorite who, in Across 110th Street is a police captain who butts heads with a lieutenant played by Yaphet Kotto... another excellent actor! Lots of other familiar faces make this movie fun all the way thru!

This transplanted wilderness family really experiences some exciting and dangerous events! This is a must see for families and people of all ages because it such a beautiful story of family and fortitude. Well written and surprisingly well acted for a mostly unknown cast, The Adventures of The Wilderness Family was filmed in 1975 and spawned a couple of sequels. Some of the family’s experiences seemed somewhat unbelievable but this is supposed to be “based on a true story� and is well worth watching.

Above average "disaster" film about an enormous earthquake hitting New York City. In this 1999 movie we see the twin towers as they were often shown in the background of many a Manhattan location but they amazingly survive the devastation all around! Good acting by Sharron Lawrence (NYPD Blue)as well as Charles S. Dutton (as the mayor of NYC) and a younger Jennifer Garner.

Attica! Attica!
The shouting chant is memorable in the 1975 movie Dog Day Afternoon starring Al Pacino and although it was misplaced in that film brought back memories of the real rioting that resulted in many deaths back in 1971 at Attica prison in western New York state. This movie is a reenactment of that event that took place over four days from September 9, 1971 up until September 13, 1971 when the prison yard was stormed with tear gas and gunfire.
Prison systems everywhere were eventually affected by the attention that was brought on inhumane treatment of prisoners. The A list of actors in this made for cable (HBO)movie include Samuel L. Jackson, Kyle MacLachlan, Clarence Williams III, Frederick Forrest, Ann Heche, and Harry Dean Stanton worked with an excellent script to produce this highly entertaining movie that is both violent and emotional. Well worth seeing!

Excellent movie with outstanding cast! I did not expect much from this film but was pleasantly surprised by the well written and acted story about lives intertwined by actions and fate. A clueless Forest Whitaker starts the action out, Andy Garcia is wickedly mean and vicious, and Brendan Fraser turns out to be the hero! Along the way Sarah Michelle Gellar proves to be top quality in acting... far above the Buffy character.

Interesting historic epic telling of how China coped with Japan's attacks during the second world war that shows the US was not the only victim when Japan attempted world dominance! Lots of action in air to air fighting over the Pacific with Bruce Willis portraying a US Army Colonel with his own agenda.

Awesome performance from Will Smith! He even sounds like Ali and the ring scenes are so reminiscent of The Great One it will give you chills! His personal life is well depicted in this film, warts and all! Ali was larger than life and this fine movie shows how he became the super star of the boxing ring.

One of those entertaining films that absolutely kept me laughing out loud throughout its 99 minutes! Sandra Bullock is so cute and her red boots are the star of this comedy! Bradley Cooper is, as usual so fun and talented, being paired up again with the fabulous Ken Jeong from The Hangover!

The expression of quiet desperation fits this actor's role in All is Lost! Very few top actors of the caliber of Robert Redford would even attempt a movie role like this one and he is fantastic! The movie may sound like it would be slow moving but it is actually very exciting from beginning to end. Very entertaining well worth watching!

Love the guy and his role in this fine film is delightful! Two of the ladies in his life, played by Emma Stone and Rachel McAdams are temptations vying to keep him in Honolulu and the billionaire (Bill Murray) shows how to “play” with big expensive toys like rockets!

What a special piece of entertainment! This DVD set describes very thoroughly just what is right about America! I don’t know how we missed it when originally aired back in 2000 but this is a great treat to watch! From the Appalachian mountain folk to throwing dice in Las Vegas it’s all captured here in a great set of programs and hours of entertainment and educational value. Celebrate America!

Great paring of Nam vets (Tom Berenger and Keith David) who take off on a trek across the US! Watch for a small but especially enjoyable role for Bruce Dern as King of the Road they meet along the way.

I was sure based on the cast that this would be a movie I would enjoy… and it sure was! The
cross-country trek taken by these characters is full of memory making events that will last them a lifetime… and I got to ride along!

Who would think that bicycle racing could be so exciting? Surely not me yet this movie is one that will keep you in your seat rooting for the good guys to win! Kevin Costner and David Grant are very competitive brothers in the race of their lives against the Russian team as well as some "down and dirty" sportsmen who want the win with high hopes of Olympic glory later on. One of the brothers also has what can be a life threatening illness, same as their father had and that only adds to their desperation to win! Very entertaining little movie well deserving of a viewing.
