An interesting selection of movies. Half black and white and half in color. I'm guessing that the majority of people that are interested in a family movie collection would want to watch these movies with their kids and that the black and white movies would be a downer to those kids.

Two low budget horror movies on one DVD. In Ruby (1977), the spirit of Ruby Claire's (Piper Laurie, who played Carrie's mom in Carrie) gangster husband returns for revenge at her drive-in movie theater. In Kiss of the Tarantula (1976), teenager Susan (Suzanna Ling in her only role) sends out her tarantulas to kill her enemies. Both of the movies were a thrilling good time for what they were.

I really wanted to like this movie because of how popular and groundbreaking this is supposed to be. I do like older anime and this one is from 1988, but I found it to be confusing and for the most part boring for the almost half of the movie that I watched. I read more details about the movie after I popped the DVD out of my laptop and it looks like the main details doesn't even kick in until more than an hour into the two hour movie. I do feel kind of like an uncultured anime fan for not liking this movie.

In this anime series, a class of middle school students are tasked with assassinating an octopus creature that can destroy the world - who just so happens to be their teacher. That teacher is Koro Sensei and not only is he a super strong assassination target, but he is an incredible teacher who cares about his students. Koro Sensei does have a tragic background, but I won't ruin it and his background isn't revealed until season two. You didn't think he just popped out of nothingness, did you?

I enjoyed this Blu-Ray release of Astro Boy. I went into it not knowing what to expect and I came out liking it a lot. How Astro Boy came into being is actually creepy for a movie aimed towards kids.

This is a remake of the anime Astro Boy. Like Dragonball: Evolution, which is also based on an anime, this didn't do well in the Japanese box office. Unlike Dragonball: Evolution, this film did well with the source material. I think that I see why this did bad in the Japanese box office though. They probably thought that Americans were messing with their creativity.

This is a decent horror film from Japan. I usually don't turn my head away from horror movies, but I had to turn my head away during the scene with the brain transfer. I guess that is saying something. It is a bit strange, but that doesn't make it a bad movie.

If you don't like over the top action anime, ancient Japanese history, and a not so gritty Batman, you won't like this movie. I am luckily interested in all three things. The sword fight between Joker and Batman was epic and the animation is excellent.

A completely fictionalized movie about Bruce Lee and Wong Jack Man. I know that the movie isn't accurate and that the main character seems to be the fictional Steve McKee, but I don't care. I watched it for a Kung Fu based plot and it does deliver on that point.

I just received the Blu-ray set today, but I did watch this bizarre anime when it was on Cartoon Network's Toonami block. Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo, who is a master of "Fist of the Nose Hair" and using toon force, team up with other weird characters to defeat Baldy Bald the 4th and his Hair Hunt Troops. The plot somewhat makes sense, but that is the point of the series.

I wasn't sure if I would like this low budget horror movie based on the reviews and ratings, but I enjoyed it. The two main strong parts are how the movie opened and its ending. In typical horror movie fashion, every single protagonist is incredibly stupid. The undead scarecrow guy also needs to do a better job of double checking his work.

There are only two Christmas episodes, but those two episodes along with the nostalgia of the other three episodes make it worth it. Billy & Mandy Save Christmas is phenomenally insanely awesome with a vampire Santa Claus that is voiced by Gilbert Gottfried. The Kids Next Door episode is a Christmas spoof of the X-Men. The other episodes are from Ed, Edd n Eddy, Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends, and Camp Lazlo. The DVD is currently expensive and buying it will set a person back over $100, but I rented it using Netflix's DVD plan recently.

This is an interesting movie length presentation from NOVA on PBS. It was also made in collaboration with National Geographic. The movie is about the life of Charles Darwin leading up to the publication of his book On the Origin of Species. The events that are portrayed within the movie include a similar idea to his being published first, his travels, and his family problems. Due to this being a NOVA release, there are some excellent shots of wildlife archive footage interspersed.

I watched this movie a long time ago as a kid and all that I could remember about it was the fantastic animation and a dinosaur living with a family of lemurs. I watched it again today and it blew me away. The animation looks so real (much better than Disney's Pixar works), many of the main characters are lovable, and the suspense is perfect for both kids and adults.

The film started with promise, but I bailed out at an hour in. The scenery and costumes were nice, but the characters were not so much. I was thinking that I might have liked it more if I have read books by Jane Austen, but most of the reviews I read from fans basically have the same opinion as mine - beautiful setpieces and not much substance. Some of them did mention that previous film adaptations were better, such as the 2009 adaptation.

This is a dorky non-scary horror movie with dumb characters. None of the characters are likable in any way and I could care less about any of them. Horror movies usually have at least one of the group to care about, but I could care less even about the main character. I guess the special effects are alright for a low budget production, so people might want to watch it if they only watch horror movies to see people killed off.
