"Join Mildred for her second year at Cackle's Academy full of enchanting mischief and fun. Set 3 is the first part of the 2nd season and includes these episodes:
Old Hat's and New Brooms
Alarms and Diversions
It's a Frog's Life
Crumpets for Tea
The Inspector Calls
Animal Magic
There is also a few special features: Photo Gallery and Georgina Sherrington (Mildred) Interview - the same as was on Collection Set 2 (Miss Cackle's Birthday Surprise) - Cast Trivia and a brief overview on Making Potions and Casting Spells
I find The Worst Witch series delightfully charming and hope that they will soon get Seasons 3 and 4 on DVD as well!"
Essential for Pre-teen girls - Episodes 1-6, series TWO

"An excellent series about Mildred a young witch starting at Miss Cackle's Academy for Witches (a witch's secondary boarding school). It's based on the few 'Worst Witch' books by Jill Murphy (a child's easy good read as well).
This DVD set 'Old Hats & New Brooms' has the first six episodes taken from the second series (year 8 - age 12), and so is very good value. It's not avialable in the UK. Note that in the US this UK/Canadian series was sadly dubbed in `American' but fortunately there is a `UK English' option in the DVD setup menu if you wish to hear the stars real voices. The rest of series two (episodes 7-13) is on the 'Up in the air' two DVD NTSC set, also available from Amazon (it has a yellow cover). Unfortunately Worst Witch season three wasn't aired in the US and isn't available anywhere on DVD at the moment - however the New Worst Witch (Mildred's young cousin) is now airing on British TV, although only the actress who plays Miss Cackle remains in the new cast.
These DVD's are still my 11 year old daughters favourite viewing and would suite 8 upwards. They aren't as scary as Harry Potter and all the cast are really excellent in their roles - Miss Hardbroom [Kate Duchene] even turned down a role in the Harry Potter film to remain true to her TV character.
Typical quotes: "Magic must not be used for selfish or trivial ends!" - Miss Cackle, "Confidence and control, Mildred - that's the secret of success." - Miss Hardbroom. So highly recommended for non-boy offspring - this series is easily a notch above the average TV sitcom or teen movie."
