"Watershed" Video Spans 15 Years of Indigo Girls' History
11/25/1998
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Far superior to their previous video release, "Live at the Uptown Lounge" (but including clips from it), this video chronicles the rise of the Indigo Girls from local favorites to national folk icons. Several music videos, of songs such as "Galileo", "Hammer and a Nail", "Touch Me Fall", "Power of Two", "Chickenman", "Joking", and the breakthrough hit "Closer to Fine", are interspersed between captivating interviews with the Girls and a generous dose of home video scenes. For those seeking material not available on major labels, there are short clips of recording sessions from the "Nomads-Indians-Saints" album, live footage from all over the world, and a couple of rare gems: brief clips of "Lifeblood" from the early years and a beautiful, harmonized, a capella version of "Finlandia" (with Michael Lorant). "Watershed" is a must for all die-hard Indigo Girls fans, and probably still worthwhile even for the less devoted music lovers. The most impressive thing about "Watershed" is that it really gives you the feeling that you know the Indigo Girls rather well personally -- a ridiculous notion, but nonetheless appealing to the faithful. (Note: as it was released prior to "Shaming of the Sun", there is no footage or music from that album.)"
The best indigo video

"this was my first indigo girls video to watch. me and my 2 die hard's were delighted to find it at a local video store for $1.99 to rent. it was the climax of my falling in love with the indigo girls. for all of us. the home video clips are priceless. closer to fine video- with a home made look and amy's torn jeans. in this song amy and emily are walking around sidewalks and the backs of buildings with their guitars, playing singing and walking at the same time. amy trips over a step and they both laugh and keep playing. it's good that they didn't cut that out. the interviews are of great value to any real fan, and contain interesting personal information about amy and emily. another songs video has amy and emily's quotes printed on the screen and they are real good ones."
Powerful, delightful, inspiring

"I watched this the week before going to see the Indigo Girls in concert and it definitely enhanced an already eagerly anticipated experience. There is a feature that will allow you to run the lyrics under the footage, which I truly appreciated. The videos were great, and not what you usually see on MTV or VH1 (due to their limited ability to see women "beyond the box"). The music is powerful, the women delightful and the footage inspiring.

"As a dyed in the wool IG fan I thought this video was fantastic. It gives more insight into the women behind the music. Just great footage altogether."
