Good budget-priced DVD...

"This DVD is a promising example of World Wrestling Entertainment re-releasing videos previously only available on VHS. Originally titled 'Heartbreak Express Tour', it features 8 matches (none of which are shown in their entirety), but that's not the point anyway. 'Boyhood Dream' is a fun look at Shawn Michaels' peak from Wrestlemania XII (March '96) to the Royal Rumble in January 1997.
The matches are:
Wrestlemania XII- HBK vs. Bret Hart (Iron Man match)
In Your House: Good Friends, Better Enemies- HBK vs. Diesel
In Your House: Beware of Dog- HBK vs. British Bulldog
In Your House: International Incident- HBK/Ahmed Johnson/Sycho Sid vs. Vader/Owen Hart/British Bulldog
Summerslam '96- HBK vs. Vader
In Your House: Mindgames- HBK vs. Mankind
Survivor Series '96- HBK vs. Sycho Sid
Royal Rumble '97- HBK vs. Sycho Sid
Nearly 30 minutes of the WMXII Iron Man match is here, along with most matches clipped down to 10-15 minutes with a total running time of 2 hours. All matches featured are great and to watch a condensed version of them does not diminish the value of this DVD, especially with a price tag of $8-12 in most areas. A must have for fans of Shawn Michaels.
Hopefully, with the release of this and the 'History of Wrestlemania I-IX' on DVD, more out of print World Wrestling FEDERATION action will be coming our way."
Shawn Michaels HeartBreak Express ReRelease

"Shawn Michaels Boyhood Dream is a re-release of the WWF 1997 coliseum home video titled "Shawn Michaels: Hearbreak Express". The video is almost 100% unchanged. Almost everytime someone says the term "WWF" it's been edited out (for legal reasons. the video still runs 2 hours, and all the matches are EXTREMELY edited in legenth. It contains matches of Shawn faceing Kevin Nash, Sid, Mankind, Vader, And the british Bulldog. The Video is hosted by Dok Hendrix (Michaels Hayes), and takes up a good 20 mintues of the show. For $10 you can't beat it. but if you alreayd have the old video then u may want to reconsider. How they were able to rerelease this without stateing on the package that it "contains previously released material" is beyond me. Mabey cause DVD is a differnt medieum then VHS. who knows. I love all the matches on this DVD, but being cut this much takes alot away from them. as a HBK fan im haoppier then ever that this video saw a re-release on DVD with new artwork. As a wrestling fan I would have been severly dissapointed had i bought this without the prior knoledge that it was an old video. So take it for what it's worth. If your a competist and buy every WWE home video then buy it. If your a fan of sawn michaels buy it. If your looking for a NEW Release or expecting something u never saw before don't buy it (cause it contians NO new footage. This is not the first time WWE Has re-released older coliseum videos. earlier this year we got "The Undertaker: He Buries Them Alive". at least that one had the same title as it's original release. Anywho this DVD gets a 3 cuase although it's a nice pice to have it's nothing new, and the matches arent the best (From the editing). Thanks for reading."
Heartbreak Express Tour
Ed The K Motley | SCOTTSDALE, AZ United States | 07/24/2004

"For Shawn Michaels' fans, this DVD is a must-own as it relives his first two reigns as WWF World champion in 1996 and 1997. For other collectors, then you may have gotten enough of these matches in 'From the Vault'.
This program was a Coliseum Video release titled 'Heartbreak Express Tour,' although they must have intended to name it 'HBK's Boyhood Dream' since all the breakpoints flash that logo. Regardless, it was made available for rent or purchase in 1997.
The program begins with Shawn Michaels winning the 1996 Royal Rumble, then Dok Hendrix hosts as we see Shawn Michaels compete at WrestleMania XII, Good Friends / Better Enemies, Beware of Dog, SummerSlam '96, Mind Games, 1996 Survivor Series, and 1997 Royal Rumble.
Like several Coliseum Video releases, the matches are edited, and they air several minutes of the match at a time.
WRESTLEMANIA XII: We see hype for the match (about 5 minutes) and then the entrance of both men (4 minutes) before the match itself begins. They air the first 10 minutes and about the last 15 minutes of the Iron Man match itself, making this match by far the longest on the program.
IN YOUR HOUSE: The first WWF Title defense for Shawn Michaels on a pay-per-view was against Diesel, and it was 'No Holds Barred.' This program airs about 7 minutes of the match, but fortunately, the full-length match is on 'From the Vault' since this footage cuts out the heart of the match.
BEWARE OF DOG: No stranger to controversial finishes, Shawn Michaels had his first controversy at Beware of Dog, where he and British Bulldog pinned each other simultaneously. The program gives 10 minutes of footage, showing the heart of the match, then the controversial finish.
QUICK SEGUE: Skipping through King of the Ring and International Incident, the program shows about 10 seconds of the British Bulldog rematch; then the six-man tag match is clipped down to about 30 seconds to show Vader pinned Shawn Michaels, and advance the program itself to the next major match.
SUMMERSLAM '96: This footage lasts about 13 minutes, and it was probably the most effective of the whole program. It has the wild beginning of the match, then jumps to the disqualification and Jim Cornette restarting that portion until the end of the match. It wasn't a great match, but based on this footage, you never would have known it.
MIND GAMES: With the exception of 'Three Faces of Foley,' there has yet to be a DVD release for Mick Foley or Shawn Michaels that has not had this match in it. This DVD shows 9-10 minutes of it, but the full-length match is available on 'From the Vault,' 'Hard Knocks & Cheap Pops', and 'Greatest Hits and Misses.'
SURVIVOR SERIES: All good things must come to an end, and so was the case for Shawn Michaels' first reign. He was upended by Sycho Sid in an incredible match at Madison Square Garden. This program gives 17 minutes, and it's well worth watching every second.
ROYAL RUMBLE: The rematch between Shawn Michaels and Sycho Sid took place in Shawn Michaels' hometown. There is not much mention of the fact Shawn Michaels has the flu, but this match is impressive for that reason. The program airs 15 minutes of this rematch, where Shawn Michaels gets his revenge on Sycho Sid.
The program ends with host Dok Hendrix rapping things up with a plug for house shows and Shawn Michaels' second title reign, saying he 'needs your support now more than ever.' Definitely an ironic conclusion since the second reign lasted about one month before Shawn Michaels forfeited the WWF Title."
HBK's first year as WWF/E Champion
Dave Barton | Jersey Shore, USA | 04/20/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)
"As everyone knows by now, HBK is a 4-time Heavyweight Champ (3 WWF/E titles, 1 World Title). But the reason the new title of this feature, "Shawn Michaels' Boyhood Dream" is much more fitting than its original title "Heartbreak Express Tour" is because it covers his first year as WWF/E Champ. As our older viewers will recall, the whole gimmick behind HBK's first title run was that he was living his "Boyhood Dream".
The matches on this dvd are shown in order of his matches during his first year as champ...
- Beating Bret Hart at WrestleMania 12 in the Ironman Match for title (****)
- Beating Diesel at In Your House 7 with No DQ & No Countout (*****)
- Drawing against British Bulldog at In Your House 8 (***1/2)
- Beating Vader at Summerslam 1996 (****)
- Beating Mankind at In Your House 10 (*****)
- Losing the title to Sycho Sid at Survivor Series 1996 (****)
- Beating Sycho Sid at Royal Rumble 1997 to regain the title (****)
HBK's first year as champ did see him have many great bouts, but with all these high-star matches (my personal ratings), I still can't rate this dvd any better than 4 stars, and that's because the matches are all cut down from their original length into highlights. True, they did keep many of the best "spots" in each match, but the continuity is lost because of this.
All in all, I still recommend this dvd. Its a great price & a great retrospective of his first year as champ. And its not just the matches, one after another...its all tied together by Michael "Dok Hendrix" Hayes leading us from one match to the next.
Still, if you'd prefer not to re-live HBK's first year as champ, and would rather just have the matches in their entirety, then go get the newer Shawn Michaels dvd, titled From The Vault."
