Member Movie Reviews![]() Reviewed on 7/5/2025... Ahhh, Nicolas Cage...what is left to say about him? Do crazy people know they're crazy? Are some crazy people able to leverage their insanity into a paying career? What percentage of Oscar winners are certifiable? Or does Cage simply know his instrument and choose crazy scripts accordingly? In "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent," Cage plays a version of himself who, according to his soon-to-be-ex-wife, needs to get his shit together. After losing out on a coveted role in an upcoming production, he reluctantly accepts an invitation to meet with a rich, mysterious European writer-producer Javi (Pedro Pascal). The two hit it off, until Cage learns from US government agents that Javi is a ruthless international gangster. They recruit Cage to be their mole in Javi's secure compound, and...I'll stop there. The film had me laughing before the 4-minute mark. The script sparkles and cracks and is perfectly cast - ultra-suave Neil Patrick Harris and ultra-nervous Pedro Pascal are wonderful foils to Cage's mania. The film shares significant DNA with Tropic Thunder, Being John Malkovich, and I'd even throw a bit of 24 Hour Party People into the mix. Cage is a terrific sport for taking this role and taking it seriously. The film has the feel of an original screwball 80s comedy, like I could see Steve Martin or Bill Murray from that time in a film like this. Rewatchability is low once you understand what's going on, but this is one hell of a fun movie. Grade: A-minus 3 of 3 member(s) found this review helpful. ![]() Reviewed on 5/25/2024... Unfulfilled and facing financial ruin, actor Nick Cage accepts a $1 million offer to attend a wealthy fan's birthday party. Things take a wildly unexpected turn when a CIA operative recruits Cage for an unusual mission. Taking on the role of a lifetime, he soon finds himself channeling his most iconic and beloved characters to save himself and his loved ones. 0 of 1 member(s) found this review helpful. ![]() Reviewed on 9/20/2022... Meh, it was okay I guess. For all that was going on, I felt kind of underwhelmed. If you want to see something more meta watch JCVD and marvel at the fact that Jean-Claude Van Damme can act. 0 of 1 member(s) found this review helpful.
