Bridges does an excellent job of channeling John Wayne in this remake of the classic. The Coen brothers also get the 'Grit' part spot on - nasty teeth and all. It's unfortunate that this effort was applied to a movie that was never really a believable Western story though. The idea that a child could have any standing to threaten lawsuits to compel hardened frontiersmen to take jobs or deals was really just a gimmick that was used to put a spin on a saturated Western movie market back in the day. It doesn't seem like anything more than a gimmick here either, thus this movie feels uneven - just when you think it's getting into the gritty realism, along comes comic relief of the Mattie Ross character to remind us that the plot is not very realistic at all.

Great movie with exceptional acting and directing. Usually remakes address not as worthy as the original.

A really good remake of a true original. How can you go wrong with Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon?!
