Being a fan of post-apocalyptic fare, even when it wasn't all the rage it is nowadays, The Tribe was a show on the edge of dystopian radar; but hard to obtain, it being filmed in New Zealand and only available in the past on Region 2 dvd and a bit pricey. Now it is available here, across the pond, on dvd and also on Prime. The premise of The Tribe is this: a contagion has wiped out all the adults and all the younglings are left to fend for themselves and find their own morally decrepid way. Several tribes have formed and the show mainly follows the trials and tribulations of the Mall Rats, on the set of the Phoenix Shopping Mall, largest one built for a production in New Zealand at the time. Sounds like Dawn of the Dead or Mad Max, right? And just what has survived the inevitable apocalypse? You guessed it: all those things you hated in high school, alive and well.

5 seasons, 260 episodes, somewhat reminiscent of Jupiter Moon, the plots a bit more substantial and attention gathering. Geeks, mindless jocks, eating disorders, fountains and drains, school bullies, Romeos, pity parties, anarchists, babies having babies, manic depression, and foremost, who stole who from who this week? As well, we behold Bob the dog belching an observational groan betwixt dialogues. He's actually quite the accomplished actor. And strangely enough, the main canned consumer comestible which survives amidst all this tweeny angst is *prize winner*: Baked Beans! Welcome to the smelly, messy future of Humanity.
