"I bought this based on the earlier reviews and was just transfixed by its raw beauty. This is Townes already looking back on his life with nostalgia -- sad but not bitter. Just sitting there with his guitar on a tacky looking sofa in a depressing hotel room, his voice sounding a bit more tired and harsh than on his CDs, Townes still has the power to transport. He introduces most of the songs with a few words about where and how they were written -- and there's some very interesting material there about his creative process. The DVD is also very helpful for those who want to see hand positions and try to play along. The interviews and covers at the conclusion add dimension to this haunting portrait of an exceptional artist."

"I started to watch/listen while folding laundry. At the end of the 70 minutes, there were 2 shirts in my folded pile and a full basket of laundry still needing attention."

"well i bought this one blind and am happy to report that we have 70 minutes of prime townes playing solo acoustic from a holiday inn room at 3:00am.drawing from the heart of his vast catologue and including relative rarities like buckskin stallion and snowing on raton,as well as classics like tecumseh valley, and pancho and lefty; townes will break your heart all over again.bring this concert into your living room today."

"Townes comes into your living room, sits on the couch across from you and sings his songs just to you. This is as close as you can get to Townes. He sat down with just his guitar and let the camera run. This is PURE, SWEET, sometimes funny, and sometime heartbreaking, with just Townes and his own words about how, when, and where he wrote these songs. Let him explain himself to you in his own way, with the music.
As a bonus, some others who really knew him talk about Townes and render their own musical tribute to him. Barb Donovan, Larry Wilson, and Calvin Russell lived and worked with Townes. Now they share their memories with you.
If you like Townes, you must own this DVD. This is your own in-house concert, I just wish a few other musicians had thought to do this.
The video work is refreshing and new. Why can't this be done this way more often."

"I had the great fortune of meeting and performing with Townes as my band was the house band at the Lone Star Cafe in NY in the late 80's. We got to open for him on two different occasions and spent two 4 day weekends hanging out in the dressing room and talking about life, song writing, performing, and many other related and unrelated topics. When Townes played, you could hear a pin drop! Over the years I grew to appreciate his writing even more. I think he is perhaps the best American folk song writer...certainly up there with Dylan and Stephen Foster. This DVD provides a wonderful in depth look at Townes the person. It also has some wonderful snippets of performances of many of Townes' songs. As soon as I heard about this video I ordered it, pre release date. It more than met my expectations! Townes was a creative genious and somewhat of mysterious man. I was fascinated to learn more about him through this DVD. We lost a special artist when we lost Townes. Anyone familiar with him and his songs will love this video as well as find it of interest. I think even if you are not familiar with his songs, seeing this DVD may very well whet your appetite and get you headed to the local CD store to acquire his recordings. I strongly recommend this video - you just can't go wrong here. Thanks to the folks that took the time to put this together."
