A sad attempt to recreate a classic. Common themes drive the rating down. Perhaps, if you have not seen the original, this would be more enjoyable and less predictable. It did have some fun action scenes but the rest was slow and boring. The Breaking Bad star failed as Cohaagen.

A serviceable remake of the 80s version (despite apparent denials of being a remake, but rather based on Phillip K. Dick's short story) with some very good CG and sci fi setting imagery. I don't mind the action staying away from Mars and mutants - it actually cleans up the story a bit to do so. The intercontinental elevator through the center of the Earth is a nice add to the story as it has been a common concept in written sci-fi for decades. If the movie could have sustained the second half as well as it does the first half, it would be top notch. As it stands, the second half is too heavy on Beckinsale-style acrobatics and extended chase scenes. Cranston is not a believable adversary for Farrell at the end - it seems that the "President" of New Europe shouldn't have enough time to train in H to H at the same skill level as a special forces type operative. All this being said, the original Recall had its share of plot holes and cheesy effects, so I won't be too hard on this one. I still slightly prefer the original, but that's probably more nostalgia than anything. That and maybe the original had a bit more humor, intentionally or unintentionally.
