One of my favorite movies. This film's CGI at the time was over the top. Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, Billy Zane and Kathy Bates all shine in this!

Am I the only person who didn't fall in love with this film? It's good, I gave it 3 1/2 stars, but I found it to be far from fabulous. The quality of production design is exceptional, the sets are magnificent, the costumes look fabulous, most of the acting is quite good (disclaimer: I am partial to many of the actors involved in this film) but overall the story left me flat. For me, it's one of those films where the sum is somehow less than the parts. Worth seeing, but I won't sit through it again.

I know most people have seen this movie and it really doesn't need another review. However, this is a really good movie that has a horrible beginning and a horrible ending. And, no-- I don't mean because the Titanic sunk. I mean the part with Rose as an old woman in the beginning and Rose at the end when she throws the necklace in the ocean and dies on her bed surrounded by a photographic shrine of herself.
The part of the movie with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet is actually very very good. It's a beautiful film to watch, the score is great, and the sets are just perfect. But, the movie's in flashback form and the beginning scenes-- although interesting-- could have been omitted. And, the end scene is one of the worst I've seen in a movie for the reasons I mentioned in the previous paragraph.
That said, we have ordered this and will finally own it. My daughter LOVES this movie and fast-forwards through the older Rose's part.
