These 22 digitally remastered shorts from 1952-1954 were made during a tumultuous time for The Three Stooges. First, in 1952 Curly succumbed to the illness brought on by his stroke six years earlier; he was only forty-eigh... more »t when he died. Shemp had really hit his stride by this time and he is at the top of his game in the new shorts from this period, but budget cutbacks at Columbia forced director Jules White to recycle some old footage, so although the work in this collection is first-rate, one can't help but wonder what could have been done if they'd had the opportunity to develop more new material. Fortunately, this era did leave us with such classics as the Stooges' first 3-D shorts, "Spooks!" (1953) and "Pardon My Backfire" (1953) ; "Shot In The Frontier" (1954) a parody of the classic film High Noon ; and Larry's hilarious spoof of Brando in "Cuckoo on A Choo Choo" (1952). These shorts are all presented as they were projected in the theaters; some in widescreen for the first time since their original release. The Three Stooges Collection Volume 7 shows how the genius of Moe, Larry, and Shemp rose above all obstacles and enabled them to be the best at their craft.« less
A must for people of this era but be warned that the sound and film quality is lousy and the plotlines are not great if others want to check it out.

Very even collection despite budget cutbacks at Columbia during the 50's. Several remakes of previous shorts in this collection but Shemp continues to shine when given the opportunity to do so. The first year in this collection (1952) was tough for the Stooges personally as they lost one of their own when Jerome "Curly" Howard passed away at only age 48 after suffering a series of strokes which forced him to quit the group six years earlier (when Shemp stepped in to take his place). The shorts from 1953 include two which were filmed in 3-D with an unusual technique which makes watching them without the included 3-D glasses nearly unbearable but, thankfully, there are also standard B/W versions of the two shorts (although they still use the forced perspective to simulate the 3-D effect). Perhaps the best saving grace of this collection is the inclusion of many shorts presented in their original theatrical widescreen aspect ratio of 1.85:1 as any serious collector should appreciate.

"There's never been any comedy better than The Three Stooges. None of the Volumes are a let down and Collection, Volume, 7 is as good as all the rest. The picture quality of The Three Stooges now, on DVD, is awesome!"

"I first saw these guys as a child, I have been waiting for years since for their shorts to come out on DVD and now the wait is finally over. I never stopped laughing at the antics of the Stooges even with Joe Besser and Joe DeRita stepping in after Curly's and Shemp's untimely passing. The stooges are what slapstick comedy teams were made of, they can never be replaced only imanitated!!"

"HEY - LET'S ADMIT IT: Ya gotta love these three goofballs - and let me just add this: YES, Curly was the ONE & ONLY funny man of all time with regard to being an original and a truly unique character but PLEASE DO NOT lump SHEMP in with Joe or Curly Joe or any of the other HORRIBLY BAD "third wheel" stooges - SHEMP was very, very good - in fact, some of his 'SCHTICK' is every bit as funny as CURLY's best stuff - ALRIGHT, he's no CURLY and he's a bit annoying at times but he can be as funny as CURLY - just give the old boy a chance!!!
I'm a CHAMPION of SHEMP'S cause!
In CORNY CASANOVAS, when SHEMP looks at MOE apologetically after accidentally yanking him off the top rung of a ladder, landing his head in a bucket of filthy mop water, nearly decapitating him while trying to remove the bucket and says: "Gee Moe, I'm sorry Moe, What mo' can a fella say? That's all there is; there ain't no mo'!", only to be beaten senseless by Moe, after Moe chuckles and utters this gem: "take it easy, kid, you're only nervous" - proving that he doesn't get the humor in SHEMP'S little ditty, you drop to the ground screaming with laughter!!!!
No matter how many times I see these episodes, I always ENJOY the boys antics in these classic comedy routines!!!!"
