Sucker Punch is the story of a young woman, Babydoll (played by the lovely and talented Emily Browning) who is trapped in a very bad home life. Her sick mother dies and leaves her and her sister at the mercy of their sleazy stepfather who has been having his way with Babydoll for some time. But when he starts to get too interested in her sister, she decides to kill him and stop it before it begins. Unfortunately, in the scuffle over a gun, her sister is shot instead and her sleazy stepdad has her put in a mental institution. In this predicament, her mind starts to deteriorate and she begins to envision herself and her fellow inmates as warriors in another reality...striving to free themselves from tormentors in a horrifying but dazzling techno-future. As layer after layer of unreality pile up, can Babydoll find her way to freedom...in any reality?
This is a visually stunning film and a true triumph from Zack Snyder, the man who brought us such wonderful films as 300 and Watchmen. While not received well at it's release from the public or critics, this film is an exitential masterpiece that answers hard questions about life, honor, and culpability, while giving us stunning cyber-visuals and Dubstep music to keep or sense entralled while our spirit studies this multifaceted masterpiece. I can't recommend this movie highly enough...for EVERYONE!!!
