Definitely, a classic. This was one of the first "could be true" alien movies made. Jeff Bridges played this role to a "T" and Karen Allen was excellent too. Considering this was made 25 years ago, the film quality and very little use of graphics are amazing. Loved it.

Fun but movie does not have re-watchability.

I don't make a habit of reviewing DVDs. This is not your typical John Carpenter flick - like "Escape From New York" or "They Live" - which are awesome! - but I have watched this movie many times as well.
At its core it is a romance, it is about an alien and a human woman who go from not understanding each other at all to falling in love. It is deep and allegorical and everything that a typical John Carpenter film is not - and it is one of his best.

After John Carpenter's The Thing failed at the Box Office he decided to make a film that was far more mainstream than his previous ones. This film did really well at the Box Office, but it seems out of place when compared to the rest of Carpenter's films.

Okay no one seems to tell anything about the movie so time for a real review. This is a timeless classic storyline of spaceman being hunted by the government and just trying to leave. He lands on the east coast and must get to the west before his pickup leaves. Assuming a widows dead husbands form and kidnapping her so he might use her car.
With a few misunderstanding the language and a few other things. The guy attracts trouble of the wrong sort quick.
By the end you are sure to be hoping he makes it just like I did. Aside form a few rude jesters and maybe three foul words this is a nice family film. It is a heartwarming tear jerker that has it's funny spots too.
To give you an idea how good the movie is they made a TV show as a spin off. I liked it and wished for his return though he never did sorry to say.
