Movie Reviews

Dinner and a movie!
Lorenz Chan | Phoenix, AZ United States | 10/20/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This picture is an excellent portrait of a beautiful land. It is based on the autobiographical book from the English author Gerald Brenan, (1894-1987). It contains a potpourri of genres such as comedy, romance, drama, documentary, and perhaps you may discover more... The setting is Andalusia, Spain; the period is around 1930's, just before the Spanish Civil War. (1936 to 1939). In this film, we can experience a cultural awareness, or perhaps a cultural shock for many people because it is the story of the discovery of an old new world. A young man, a writer, begins a journey out of his land, language, and culture. He is in search of the rural tranquility and solitude. To his surprise, he finds more that he was expecting for. The surrounding elements of nature, simple life, dramatic and humorous adventures, and passion created a colorful and entertained scenario. You are getting a beautiful visual tour, worth it to enjoy over dinner, with an excellent theatrical performances."

"I saw this movie just yesterday, having bought it by chance at a dvd shop. This movie was excellent. The acting is believable and casting is effective. The storyline is pleasant, doesn't drag, and though it doesn't leave you thinking profound thoughts, it leaves you thinking about the paths we take in life and the decisions we make; most of all, it just leaves a nice savour in the mouth. Bravo Fernando Colomo!"

"I'm from southern Spain, and the locale is well shown on the DVD. The disc arrived in perfect condition - this is a five star vendor!"
