Van Peebles teams with two abused youths seeking safety from their foster parents in the Bronx . . . after about an hour of filming the two parties aimlessly wandering the urban ruins. There are portions of a decent script hidden in this movie, but they are spaced far apart by long sequences of cheesy, lame soft rock songs that resemble single camera music videos - played for the full duration of the song. Van Peebles demonstrates great acting ability on poor film stock and audio - his sister is mostly believable in her role. The kids in the film have great Bronx accents, but are otherwise unconvincing despite the feeble attempts to put smudges of dirt on their faces to make them appear homeless. Kudos for addressing difficult subject matter, but the ending was rushed to make room for the aforementioned cheesy musical segments.
