A surprisingly good sci-fi movie - even more surprising that it has not developed more of a following, re-make, or some other form of media using the setting. While Hamill is billed as the 'star' of this movie, it's really Bill Paxton that makes it truly enjoyable. The concept of a post-apocalyptic world changed by the force of the wind is moderately explained at the beginning, but wisely chooses to just ask the viewer to accept what it is and proceeds with the story. There's definitely a few plot points in the film that run against the grain of expectations, even if other elements are tried-and-true gimmicks of sci fi movies. Relatively low-budget, this film relies on the locations used more so than effects to give the illusion of strange new futuristic lands.

Really weird but most would like it. Mark Hamill plays the reverse of his normal role and Bill Paxton helps make this flick really weird!

I liked it.....

"yes, i agree with the other reviewers who didn't care for the quality control. but, i did like this movie. i liked the fact that it was daylight on the earth (so to speak) and not surrounded by green screen on a studio set. and, of course, the age old question as to whether or not man is losing his humanity and leaving emotions to our robotic servants.

we can't always have special effects, the best writers, editors, etc. but it is a decent movie. and yes, i feel they wasted bill paxton, as well."
