I loved seeing this movie again. It is an intelligent film, one that doesn't treat you like an idiot. It's not an easy concept - two separate time tracks, as if in parallel universes, with things going differently for the characters in each one. But it is done very well. Paltrow is terrific, as is the male lead. Highly recommended.

Here's a unique chick flick from the bloody, godless Brits. One Gwyneth Paltrow, lives tin a parallel universe, by way of cinematic artifiace...in one story line she does catch her live in boyfriend in bed with a, gasp, ghastly awful American Adulteress...and in the other story line, she just misses catching them. So the charade goes on and on, with the American harlot in question ferociously trying to get Gwyneth's boyfriend to dump Gwyneth and go back with her. So there's is quite some literary tight rope walking here, which is carried off pretty well. Only the sappy britishism get in the way - like 'bollocks" "cock up", 'bloody hell", "shagging", ad nauseum. And no acting could be harder to manage with such an implausible script...and even more implausible male personnae. This is often the flaw in a chick movie...a one sided view of "wretched, lying whore hopping men" on one hand, and a most unrealistic protrayal of "loverly" - and charming romantic men - "sitting up and begging' for sexual favors" from their morally flawless female counterparts.
All in all. I have to give the movie a fairly good rating. Little chance of ever being rememberd 20 years from now; ( unlike "The Black Narcissus" from Britain, still worth watching 40 years later!).. yet this film is not a complete waste of time either. Like a good mystery, what keeps you staring blankly at this silliness, is the constant wonder as to exactly how this will all be finally resovled. One guy, unfaithful, another romantic lead, married - yet putting on the full court press on Gwyneth...and both women become pregnant. Can it get any more entangled? Yet resolve it does. Well done.
Moral of the story?..for the love of God don't cheat on your mate. In reality, you will be repeatedly stabbed...not 'taken calmly', and with only a 'tinge' of sadness. No it doesn't work like that except on Seinfeld. In real life you will die at the hands of the horribly enraged person you betrayed.

This movie is funny and clever. It shows the way Helen's life will turn out based on whether she catches a train or misses it by a few seconds. Jean Tripplehorn is great as her nemesis.
