"While the average at home cook may have some difficulty with all the ingredients involved, the preparation and cooking is remarkably "Do-able".
Side note for Previous neg reviewer: What cook does not have little irritating habits? (For Julia, it was her VOICE for goodness sake. Don't even get me started with The Frug.) One of Mings happens to be this little "super chop" thing he does with his ceramic knife. So what? He worked for years in his Families restauraunt and probably picked it up there. Postering? I don't think so. Also, he puts himself down a little to much for my taste and sometimes talks like a hyper surfer-boy turned chef but besides that, hey! Enjoy!
There are a remarkable amount of gems in this collection. One that always stands out is a "field trip" to a cafe where they do a demo of Sweet and Sour pork. That 5 minutes left me hungry and it was so quick and easy! Every episode has an educational trip of some sort. Not suprising, this being a WGBH (PBS) Production. They are usually always informative and applicable.
You will find that this show is all about flavor and presentation. Heavily influenced (probably) from his time spent in his families restauraunt a lot of the dishes are served "Family style" on beautiful large plates and lots of emphasis on side dish "appitizers" if you will.
Home-made Curry rubs, Tomato-lime salsas, teriyaki-cranberry glaze, Tea-rubs, etc.
I am now hungry. (Sigh.)
Every epidsode also features special guest ranging from Jacques Pepin, Aaron Sanchez, his chef Parents (Watch for an absolutetly delightful episode on Hot Water Dough w/ his mom. Hilarious!),Jasper White, Gale Gand, Lidia Bastianich(!), Etc. They all give their own take on Mings Master recipies.
This is highly recomended for the budding cook with an open mind to new techniques and new flavors. This is in no way traditional but USES tried and true traditional techniques. The bonus features also included printable recipies and cooking tips and tricks. Well worth it and really and excellent addition to anyones cooking collection!
I'm still waiting for the next set....

"This DVDs set taught me a lot even though I cook a lot of Asian food and I am an Asian myself. Most recipe is simple, very delicious and can apply to all kind of meats and vegetables. I brought two set of this DVDs, gave one to my mother and she loved it.
I make the stir-fry sauce on Disc 3 and gave it out to some of my friends as a gift. They all loved it and ask for the recipe! Well worth the money. Really fun recipes to cook and eat."
