okay, so having bought previous FILM CHEST releases and being quite satisfied with them, i decided to purchase this one as well. This movie has long been a fave of mine, with my first viewing on late night syndicated tv back in the 1980's. The overall look, and budget, is pure drive-in dreck but the story is a cut above the rest (no pun intended)
Well, needless to say, i was a bit disappointed at this release. It seems that nothing was improved technically to the video or audio quality and this seems like nothing more than a straight to video transfer of a 35mm print, blemishes and all. Let me explain what i mean by blemishes. Scratches, lines and splices appear occasionally throughout (and this is the worst offense for me because visuals are everything to a film, and some cracking and popping in the soundtrack, which doesn't happen often but is no less annoying to me.
But i will say this in conclusion.....if you currently own a public domain copy of this movie, then the FILM CHEST version is about 40% better than any of those.
The movie is presented here in widescreen, with 2.0 sound and no extras (not even a trailer).
if this is a must have for your collection, bargain hunting would be the smart thing to do in this case, because this release is SRP at a higher price than FILM CHEST's previous releases.
On a scale of 1 to 10.....i give this DVD release a 4.
