Movie Reviews

Not what I expected
John | Washington, DC USA | 03/11/2005
(2 out of 5 stars)

"I was expecting more of a "how to." This DVD is not for you if you are looking at learning how to scratch, mix or DJ. This DVD is more a history of DJing. It does go into minor detail of what the DJs interviewed did to become popular. Although they don't teach you how to do juggle or battle, it was pretty cool to watch the DJs do their thing.

The main (and only) thing I found useful on this dvd was this bit of advice: Get a feel for the crowd. If every body is dancing to a song of a certain speed, don't change the type of song being played (i.e. If everyone is dancing to a Lil Jon track, don't make the next song be Weezer - My Name is Jonas, it'll kill the mood). Keeping people happy is the main lesson to be learned. Now that I've told you that, you don't have to watch this DVD.

Final note - my negative reaction to this DVD was mainly because I was expecting a tutorial on how to DJ, and I got a lesson in who influenced today's DJs."
