Movie Reviews

Modest Biblical epic succeeds where grander efforts fail.
09/07/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Saul and David, though a modest production, succeeds in capturing the Biblical milieu where grander efforts fail. Two outstanding actors and a competent script raise this film above the common run of the epic genre. Norman Wooland as Saul journeys from arrogant confidence to piteous despair and failure. Handsome Gianni Garko as David evolves from reverent obedience to rebelliousness and doubt. This film leaves a more striking and lasting impression of its subjects than others in the genre. Outstanding period drama."
