Member Movie Reviews![]() Reviewed on 2/23/2016... Great movie suitable for the entire family. 1 of 1 member(s) found this review helpful. ![]() Reviewed on 2/11/2011... Based on a novel by Garrison Keillor (LAKE WOBEGON DAYS) and Jenny Lind Nilsson, THE SANDY BOTTOM ORCHESTRA is a slice Midwestern life familiar to fans of Mr. Keillor's fiction. This Showtime original stars Glenne Headly as Ingrid, a sophisticated woman who moved to rural Sandy Bottom, Wisconsin with her husband, abandoning her promising career as a classical pianist. Now a mother and the head of the local church choir, Ingrid spends her time trying to introduce new pieces of music to the congregation and challenging the community's rural mentality. Meanwhile, her husband, Norman, has persuaded the town to allow a classical concert at Dairy Days, the town's annual festival, with the hope that he can establish a high water mark in the town's dubious musical history.
Movie ReviewsThe Sandy Bottom Orchestra David A. Ginn | baltimore, md United States | 02/08/2006 (5 out of 5 stars) "A film from the heart. This is another one of those hidden gems of a story. Great acting and scenes. If you love music, you will love this film. If you are not into music, the story will touch your heart. We need more movies like this." Love of Classical Music Jennifer Ferring | Cedar Rapids, IA | 06/23/2007 (5 out of 5 stars) "This movie is excellent because it focuses on everyday life instead of fantasy (like Hollywood usually does). I can wholly relate to the 2 main characters as I too am a classical pianist and violinist who has always been the outsider (sometimes the reason being because of my love of classical music). It is a great family movie and can help boost your spirits if you are an outsider as well as give you the engery that you need in order to keep going to make a difference inspite of what other people think." Wonderful family movie Catlady13 | Shawnee, Ks USA | 08/04/2007 (5 out of 5 stars) "A good movie for kids and adults who have special talents, who stand alone in the crowd, to show them that they are not alone, and that they do have a place in this world. It also makes points about true friendship, and how a dream can come true if you try hard enough and have enough faith in yourself. Also touches on the art of compromise. Great story line."
