Member Movie Reviews![]() Reviewed on 3/26/2024... This fictional story shows the human spirit of coping + survival (keeping sane + parenting in a room/prison). The effects of captivity on the psyche are just touched upon in this heart-felt film which Larson won Golden Globe + Academy Award for Best Lead. In reality, indeed the 5yo would display more resilience as he knew no other home (+ was kept as safe, happy, + educated as possible) while the young adult parent would start to mourn the loss of her own stolen teen life + question her past choices (as the reporter used the blame-the-victim line of questioning forcing premature reflection - with consequences). Not a spoiler as that media focus sadly is not surprising nowadays. The malnutrition is highlighted too which shows a pale child, blinded by sunshine, + struggling to walk up steps. Another barely touched yet powerful aspect is the healing power of pets, even make believe ones! The kidnapping scene was skipped so one can manage to watch this film without tears. 3 of 3 member(s) found this review helpful. ![]() Reviewed on 11/14/2023... Room is a 2015 drama film directed by Lenny Abrahamson and written by Emma Donoghue, based on her 2010 novel of the same name. It stars Brie Larson as a young woman who has been held captive for seven years and whose five-year-old son (Jacob Tremblay) was born in captivity. Their escape allows the boy to experience the outside world for the first time. The film also stars Joan Allen, Sean Bridgers, Tom McCamus and William H. Macy. 0 of 1 member(s) found this review helpful. ![]() Reviewed on 7/8/2020... Did not like the beginning and did not know what this story was about but once it got into meat of it, it was an impressive story and plotline. Went back and watched the beginning so don't be tempted with 120X FF and stick it out. Shame on those heartless reporters that show up during cases like this. Won't spoil it but once you finish this movie, one true story will stick in your mind. A real tear jerker at times but a must watch! 2 of 2 member(s) found this review helpful.
