"This is an absolute horrible audio mix! Everything in the mix is louder than Paul's voice and his harp. If you are looking for a Paul Butterfield Blues Band DVD this is probably not it. There is a reason the band is called Paul Butterfield Band. You spend your $15.00 and find out.
Now for Buzzy Feiten fans, this is a great showcase for him and guitarist Peter Atanasoff if you like high notes and plenty of them. This is not intended to dog two excellent guitarists. Again, you spend the money and enjoy high on the neck blues scales at the speed of light. You do not have to worry about old Paul Butterfield getting in the way.
I would have liked to know that it was a semipro audio mix and that Paul was way down in the mix.
Paul's performance is ok and he seems to have been enjoying himself. If you think this might be the kind of thing you have experienced with Elvin Bishop, Mike Bloomfield, or Amos Garrett with a cool two guitar combo, or the "Better Days" band, or a horn section you may be disappointed. It's not that.
Does amazon give you credit you when you think something isn't good. Or maybe one of you want to buy mine really cheap! I won't give you your money back because you have been warned."
Butter with Feiten, good DVD

"With regards to Bobcat Bob's review, he is correct. However the history is at this time Paul was very "sick" (substance abuse) and had no band, but a commitment to do the Rockpalast show. His manager called up Buzz Feiten a few days before and asked him to put a band together. They rehearsed, then went to Germany. The results is this DVD. Now, I like this DVD a lot and I think Paul puts in a great performance, but it is more of a Buzzy Feiten DVD, I agree. I am also a big Buzz fan (AKA FeitenFan on YouTube) so this is ok with me. If you are looking for straight blues, ala Butterfield with Bloomfield etc, this isn't it. BobCat Bob is correct, but I still give this cd 4 stars for the guitar playing.

Great Stuff for When It was Recorded

"I've been a fan a Paul Butterfield for a long time and didn't have anything on DVD. This performance is very good I think with a real live sound representing the era when it was filmed. I feel it's surprisingly good considering it was filmed over 30 years ago. My only complaint is that the last track on the DVD locks up about half way through and does not track correctly. (both of the Rockpalast DVD's that I have received (This one & Spirit) do the same thing) On this DVD it was the interview portion so none of the music was messed up."
The Paul Butterfield Blues Band DVD = A Very Good Blues Rock

"This is a very good Blues Rock Concert DVD by Paul Butterfield & his band. The guitar work in awesome. The band has 2 guitar players in it. It's a good concert, consisting of 9 good blues rock songs. It has an approximate running time of 66 minutes. It was filmed on September 15, 1978 at the Rockpalast Fesival in Germany. However, it was only released as a DVD, in 2009.
It's definitely worth buying and watching!!!
I did not find any problem with Paul Butterfield's vocals, or harmonica playing. He sounded good to me.
The line-up is as follows:
Paul Butterfield - vocals, harmonica
Peter Atanaoff - electric guitar
Buzzy Feiten - electric guitar - (THIS GUY IS AWESOME ON THE ELECTRIC GUITAR - HIS GUITAR PLAYING ALMOST MADE THIS A 5 STAR DVD, IN MY OPINION).
Bobby Vega - bass guitar
Ernest Carter - drums
The song set is as follows:
1.Rockpalast - Intro
2.Fair Enough
3.One More Heartache
4.Fool in Love
5.New Walking Blues
6.It's Alright
7.Goin' Down
8.Born Under a Bad Sign
9.Just When I Needed You Most
10.Interview (with Alan Bangs).
Overall, I would give this a good, solid 4 star rating. It's definitely worth buying and watching. Thanks!!!

Well, How Rare Is This!!!

"Well I totally agree with most of the other reviews. I couldn't wait to get this in the mail as I have been a 40 year Butterfield fan. I got to see him many times growing up in New York as a teenager. Once he was on his own playing piano and asked "does anyone play" at the Cafe Au Go Go and I got to do a number with him. Cool.
This DVD has flaws but there is no other Paul Butterfield session available. We can have taste of Butter on the Monterrey and Woodstock (re-issue) films, but there is quite rightly, no extensive footage of the great Paul Butterfield Blues Band of the 1966 era. Does any exist???!!! With regards to the mix-on my LCD TV in Australia Butterfield's harp sounds alright- I can hear it clearly. So there is some useful record there.
The set list is varied but it does contain a few interesting and important items- firstly, disregard all the high speed, non-soulful, hypo blues and diminished scales picking with various affects and look at "One More Heartache" a very acceptable version, Albert King's "Born Under A Bad Sign" from his old sixites days at the Cafe Au GoGo with Elvin Bishop and the top selection; "The New Walking Blues", the Robert Johnson classic, from the East-West album. Yes this DVD is worth getting for the memories and its historical value. Why do the Europeans do so much better at preserving American Music?"
