Revenge was the second of a trilogy, featuring at the height of the ninja craze of the 80s. This explains how such a poorly acted, ridiculous movie could have such a massive box office return. This movie features nearly every trope and cliche of ninja, and even some that might surprise you - how about a life-size, paper-mache dummy that can grab someone! This dummy will certainly fool opponents into believing it is the real ninja was standing behind them - and surprise! Where would such ninja trick be hidden in tight-fitting clothing? Nevermind - these guys are constantly pulling items out of nowhere. What else can we see? Ninja mind control? Yep. Flames and smoke balls? Yep. Being completely undetectable despite wearing bight red sashes and headbands? You got it. There was even a (robotic?) fake arm the grabs the protagonist’s leg from a pool of water – only for him to find it was yet another ninja trick! The main villain looks a lot like Will Ferrell, which only adds to the comedic value of what this Braden guy does. Did I mention that anyone can apparently become a deadly ninja with all these abilities in a mere 20 years of living in Japan? You can even run a business on the side, and the ninja clans will still teach you this deadly art in your spare time. My rating on this film is purely based on laughing at it – the action is pretty bad and mostly unconvincing, special effects laughable. If this is not your kind of entertainment, then this movie would be a half star by normal standards.
