However, th... more »ese were not Blackies first screen appearances: he "returned" to movie houses a decade-and-a-half before in this enjoyable mystery/adventure concoction. Here, our hero is a gentleman crook whos just been released from the slammer. Denver Dan, his old crony expects Blackie to resume his old, unsavory ways. Blackie, though, proclaims that his two years behind bars have "made changes in me...after this I play everything dead on the level." Blackies attempt to go straight will not be as simple as he assumes. First, hell have to contend with Dan, whos convinced that obeying the law means turning stool pigeon. Then, he meets and falls for a girl with a problem: her philandering father has foolishly given away an heirloom to "Necklace Nellie," a scheming nightclub hostess. Shes stolen it back and enlists Blackies help in returning it to the family safe. Blackie is assisted in no small manner by "Strongheart," his trusted, ever-present canine companion, whose acts of heroism help make this one diverting entertainment. PS.
