Technically not totally

(4 out of 5 stars)

"What keeps this collection from being a 5-star package (apart from the grainy quality of some clips which probably can't be helped) is the substitution of the original "Tainted Love" video with a 90s-era remix (as also found on Alternative '80s: 20th Century Masters - The DVD Collection, also reviewed by this author). Beyond that, it's an authentic line-up of original clips as seen on MTV and the like (with one exception) in the golden age of music video.

Here's the program:

1. The Buggles - Video Killed the Radio Star

2. Devo - Whip It [I'm guessing this was taken straight from either We're All Devo or The Complete Truth About De-Evolution given the abrupt cutoff]

3. Blondie - Rapture

4. Duran Duran - Hungry Like the Wolf

5. Joe Jackson - Steppin' Out

6. Soft Cell - Tainted Love [remix; see opening paragraph]

7. The Plimsouls - A Million Miles Away

8. The Fixx - One Thing Leads to Another

9. Madness - Our House

10. Men Without Hats - The Safety Dance

11. Big Country - In a Big Country

12. Bananarama - Cruel Summer

13. Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Relax [the original "allegedly banned" (per Wikipedia) S&M-themed version not shown on MTV]

14. a-ha - Take on Me [the audio track has been replaced by the original LP mix but it only makes a difference at the very end]

15. ABC - When Smokey Sings"
