Law and Order's Mariska Hargitay set role mismatched with similar but not believable role. The whole plotline was off. Some may enjoy it though.

I didn't read the book so I can only go by the movie. Very interesting and insightful to the Amish way of life. Mariska Hargitay plays a lawyer (she is much more believable as a lawyer than a cop...in my opinion) who unwilling defends young Amish girl accused of killing her infant daughter. Some nice twists and turns that I didn't expect.
