Very nice DVD. We used this DVD to supplement classroom history course on the time period of pirateering. Includes many details not found in most history books. Nice way to learn some historical facts that are more meaningful when "they come to life."

(The Editorial Review above is not from this DVD.) Description from box: Were they terrorists or just greedy plunderers? Rebels or just bloodthirsty rogues? You'll find out in this swashbuckling high seas docu-drama! Seeking to pierce this distorting veil created by legend, the unique program captures some of history's most famous pirates through simulated profiles of their darkly adventurous lives. Meet the scruffy Blackbeard, who wasn't satisfied with just raiding ships and robbing towns: his style was to frighten and intimidate as well. You'll also encounter the gentler Captain William Kidd, who became a pirate during a mid-life crisis; the fearsome "Black Bart" Roberts, who-in a pique-burned down a slave ship with 80 people aboard; and two hard-nosed women, Mary Reed and Anne Bonny, who out-plundered and outfought most men-and then used their gender to slip out of the hangman's noose. Honing its air of razor-sharp authenticity, this exciting program tells its stories in some of the same settings where these wolves of the sea lived, fought, and died. EXTRAS: Sir Francis Drake and the Privateers, Captain Morgan and the Buccaneers, and a Feature Film Bonus: Long John Silver's Return to Treasure Island.
