Unsettling Killer Doll Horror Story That Delivers The Chills
Simon Davis | 10/20/2009
(4 out of 5 stars)

""Killer Doll" stories featuring an often inanimate doll that wrecks havoc, murder and mayhem on those individuals unfortunate enough to cross its path seem to have been a natural for creating eerie horror movies/telvision shows down through the decades. Looking back there have been a number of memorable "doll" horror stories that have thrilled audiences such as "The Devil Doll", the "Talking Tina" episode of "The Twilight Zone" TV series, "Child's Play" and of course probably most memorable of all the Zuni Fetish Doll story starring a terrorised Karen Black in the legendary "Trilogy of Terror" TV movie. It's actually quite amazing what the fertile minds of horror writers can do with a seemingly harmless childhood plaything and I think after watching any of the above mentioned titles you never will view dolls the same way again. Here we have yet another disturbing variation on the killer doll scenerio in the luridly titled "Pinocchio's Revenge". Personally I find that title irresistable and despite a lot of criticism of this film I actually found viewing it a very unsettling and tension filled experience. Despite its low budget "Pinocchio's Revenge" possessed a strong feeling of evil even in its quiet moments and the doll of the title I felt certainly fitted the bill as something that instantly created a strange sense of unease and anticipation that something bad was going to happen. While some find the fact that the doll's face doesn't alter for most of the film's running time to be a let down I found that motionless glaring face highly effective in conveying the dolls inner menace. I also thought it highly interesting to use the beloved character of Pinocchio, adored by generations of children and adults alike as an object of pure murderous evil in this horror film. Walt Disney's beloved animated character this Pinocchio most certainly isn't.

"The strangest thing about this film is the voice of Pinocchio. it sounds like that kid from the 70s who did those weird cartoon voice overs. overall a fun movie but very predictable. not much on effects."
