Movie ReviewsVintage Disney Philip Massey | La Mirada, CA USA | 02/06/2002 (5 out of 5 stars) "This movie perfectly exemplifies what the Disney brand used to stand for before Michael Eisner started leading Disney into its present controversial direction: a quality family movie with a heartwarming, redemptive, and educational story; the kind of movie that families used to trust Disney to make consistently. The numerous excerpts of classical music, from Handel's "Messiah" to Haydn's "The Creation," are presented in a very entertaining and lighthearted manner. They are thus an excellent tool to teach younger children about this style of music in a way that's not stuffy or pretentious. My own early introduction to opera and classical music was through the vintage Bugs Bunny cartoons, like "Rabbit of Seville" and "What's Opera, Doc." This movie can serve much the same function for introducing children to oratorios and lieder. In the process, they will also receive a wonderful morality tale about looking beyond our outer differences to the person that's inside." Great movie J.
