Escapism

Amos Lassen

In Ibiza there is only one party promoter worth mentioning--John-John. His parties are the most elaborate and the absolute wildest. Because of this everyone wants to go to his parties and will do whatever they can to get in. Charles de Poulignac is the prince of parties and he flies to Ibiza to create an alliance with John-John. He is tired of not being welcomed at parties and he wants his own parties in Paris to become the talk of the town.

Jose Garcia is John-John, the party queen, and he is brilliant. He is vulgar, gay and dramatic and when he faces Charles (Rupert Everett), sparks fly. It seems that the jet setters have now deserted Charles and he wants to win them back.

The movie is all about having fun and that is what you will have watching this. It is outrageous yet totally entertaining, full of charm and wit. There is nothing deep to ponder; everything is superficial but the cast does manage to win its way to your heart. Here is escapism at its best.
