There will be the obvious comparisons to the various Star Trek series... however this series literally "boldy goes where no one has gone before". How, you ask? Well, it has GBLT characters, they talk about topics never talked about on Star Trek series, there is more humor (expected from Seth but still it's a change from the usual space drama series).

You still have the usual space adventure, drama, mystery, etc. but with more comedy than other space series. I think the Star Trek Below Decks series was created in response to this series to show more humor and experiences about other members of the crew besides the bridge crew.

Inspired by the Original Star Trek and Next Generation but a much slower version. Trekkie might like this but others will be bored by it.

Talk about stuck in first gear, er I mean warp drive. Season 1 was fun, and I went into it with low expectations, so I did the same with season 2 hoping I would once again come away surprised and delighted. It felt like the entire season bogged down on a single subject; relationships/romance. Falling in love with robots, falling in love with computer programs, falling in love with the enemy, still being in love with someone and wondering if you should try to rekindle that. It got old and predictable pretty quickly. Then, to just add the rancid cherry to the top of the dirt sundae they turned the final episode into a time travel/alternate universe/action flick. I don't know about anybody else, but I don't watch something written by and starring the guy who created Family Guy so I can see spaceships shooting at each other. I expect comedy, even if it's not as off-color as one might anticipate. The show has heart, but I think season 2 tried a bit too hard to show that.
