Movie ReviewsTragically beautiful story w vansickle | 02/17/2000 (5 out of 5 stars) "O.k. so perhaps this movie wasn't fast-paced, action-packed, or full of big budget special effects. Perhaps it wasn't even filled with gratuitous nudity, but it still had a lot of things going for it. It had a kind of simple tenderness to it which I found entirely enchanting. It's one of those films that sort of haunt me as though it were one of my own memories. The transformation from innocence and immaturity to harsh reality was eerily vivid. This movie is a definite must-see." FINALLY!! BILLY JOE GETS HIS. OR SO WE THOUGHT? CWATKINS | FLORIDA | 01/07/2009 (5 out of 5 stars) "This has been a long awaited dvd release!! I will add more to the review after seeing what they have done to this classic. LOOKS LIKE AMAZON HAS CANCELLED THE DVD RELEASE...IT IS NO LONGER ON MY WISH LIST AND HAS DISAPPEARED FROM ANY SEARCHS.." Cancelled???? C. Wood | 03/05/2009 (4 out of 5 stars) "Amazon first listed this DVD for a release date of Feb. 10, then April 28, NOW they have completely removed it all together, no explanations! After searching many other websites I have found that the release of this long awaited DVD has been cancelled! What's up with that!? If you, too, are disappointed with this decision, write to Warner Bros. Home Video and voice your complaint, as did I." The truth about Ode To Billy Joe MS is Home | 05/04/2007 (4 out of 5 stars) "I had the good fortune of being an extra in this movie, and I went to school with Bobbie Gentry's two sisters, knew her grandparents and have met Bobbie on more than one occasion. The song was fiction, as was the movie. It was not a true story as many people have said. It's a haunting movie, with good performances, especially Robby. I enjoyed working with him on this movie for over a week and watching him as a professional. I have always felt he was an underrated actor, and he has gone on to be quite successful as a director. When we made the movie, we never thought it would have such a long life, but it has. It lives on, and I think that is a testament to the good performances and Bobbie's wonderful song."
