A Must For Hockey Fans

"I caught this little Canadian gem on cable last year. Being a hockey fan, naturally I was intrigued. It's the story of how Ted Lindsey took the destiny of the National Hockey League into his own hands and fought (literally) to form the NHLPA. It's a great story of a great hockey player who could no longer stand idly by and watch former greats die penniless and see his fellow players sweat over where their next meal may come from. The reason I give it four stars instead of five is because it comes off like a made for TV movie, in other words, the production value could have been better, but the perfomances, story, and direction are top notch. In lieu of the current climate in the NHL (i.e, the lockout, which hurts the game as a whole and the fans who love it), I think it would do some folks up at the top (are you listening Gary Bettman and Bob Goodenow?) to watch this film and remember why the players formed a union in the first place."
WAS a made-for-tv movie

"In response to the earlier reviewer, this WAS a made-for-tv movie produced quite a few years back for the CBC network in Canada. I remember watching the first broadcast and was amazed how they found actors that earily resembled the former hockey greats and coaches. The actors that played Gordie Howe and Jack Adams were particularly spot-on. There is some strong language (even for a tv movie at the time), but nothing compared to what they get away with now on tv. It's a facinating insight of the Original Six and how the NHL and Players Association has evolved to what it is today. If you're an older hockey fan, especially one who grew up in an Original Six city, you will probably appreciate this film more than the average viewer. However, overall, it's a very entertaining docu-drama."

"This was made for TV movie for the CBC in Canada many years ago, I believe back in '95. I have read the book and this movie is dead on. It is only based on "one" chapter of the book so if you are a die hard hockey fan or just want to see a different side of hockey then watch the movie after you read the book. The dvd quality is good and the acting is great I think for a tv movie. I definatlty reccommend this for any sports fan. There is not a a whole lot of hockey played in the movie so if you are looking for a "Miracle" or "Youngblood" then this is not for you. This is about how the players banded together to fight for what was rightfully theirs and to have their voice heard. I took a Hockey Course through SMWW and this was one of our assignemts, to read this book. I also reccommend "Money Players"."
