Had some good scenes but overall I just did not like this so it's not a keeper or one that I would watch again.

Love this. Sailing the high seas and trekking to the Galápagos Islands. Not only that, Russell Crowe, Paul Bettany and many favorite British actors. This is a keeper!

The first time I watched this movie I stopped it 10 minutes in and turned on the subtitles. Due to the early england english and slangs of that time period it was hard to understand. The second time I watched this movie I didn't need the subtitles because I had learned and adapted myself to the language. I absolutely LOVE this epic movie now and due to the authenticity of the language I find myself emmersed in it as if I were a part of it all. I'm sure this is what the author had intended and he was right! Russell Crowe was brilliant and believabley able as captain. Don't watch this movie once and complain. Watch and learn the language of the period using the subtitle option and then watch it again without for the full effect. You'll be glad you did and you'll learn something of old England and feel the better for it. "All hands at your battle stations for this authentic 1805 warship adventure in the era of The Napoleanic War"

This Movie was Terrible.....In that you Couldn't Hear or Understand what in the world they were saying......We had to turn it off it was so bad........if you want to see a movie where you can't understand what words they are saying......I mean IN English, this is the Movie for You.

dont understand why this was underrated...nice and slow, like a trip in a sail ship. Great episode on the island, could have been Darwin!!!

The movie is sad and was hard for me to understand.
I got bored and left, when I was only 20 minutes into the movie.
But if you like stories about the sea it's for you.
I would much rather watch a action drama movie.

If you like sea stories, or naval combat type movies you will enjoy this one.
Parents should know that it is quite graphic. If you get sick at the sight of blood this movie isn't for you.
It is fascinating, though, because they portray what naval combat really looked like. We get so used to the Disney version of cannon fire you forget what it really meant. When a cannon hit a mast splinters went EVERYWHERE and that is what would really get you.
Some of the strategies the Captain uses to get himself out of trouble are quite entertaining (such as building a "ship" as a decoy)
And there are some comic relief situations.
My Favorite LINE:
Regarding two weevils (little bugs) the Captain asked the doctor which he would choose if he had to choose one. The Doctor can't decide since "they look the same"
To which the Captain replies:
"Do you not know that in the service... one must always choose the lesser of two weevils."
