A Joyful Hour with Marriner's Mozart...
Young Seok Park | Seoul, Korea | 05/12/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This dvd contains a very enjoyable Mozart concert conducted by Neville Marriner. The concert was recorded at the Palazzo Dei Congressi in Lugano in November 2005. Featuring works are 'Die Zauberflote - K.620 Overture', 'Concerto for flute and harp & orchestra in C major, K. 299' and 'Symphony No. 39 in E Flat Major, K.543'. To me, Marriner's Mozart is something different than others': more expressive, more live, and more sophisticated. I really enjoyed the ensemble Marriner creates and was able to feel the essence of Mozart's music. Marriner's symphony No. 39, one of the last masterpieces of Mozart, was a real nice treat in particular. I watched the 3rd and 4th movements over and over again. It was also such a pleasure to see the flute virtuoso Patrick Gallois in such popular work 'Concerto for flute and harp.' The harpist was Fabrice Pierre, who seems to have had a long partnership with Gallois for the work. I had such a happy time of 70 minutes with the concert. I wished the conert had been longer. I want more of Marriner!

The technical quality of the dvd is at top notch: superior vision and sound with DD5.1, dts5.1, and PCM. I loved the PCM audio track! 16x9 enhanced format. Highly recommended!!!"
