You want to like this but it's like the friend reviving their hot rod over and over again and then when it is time to take off, it putters off. Fire Marlowe and don't get taken!

A noir whodunit set in 1939 Hollywood (the golden year of cinema according to many) starring Liam Neeson as private dick Philip Marlowe. Hired to find the missing paramour of slim, blonde heiress Clare Cavendish (Diane Kruger), Marlowe soon finds there's more to this mystery than meets the eye when screen legend Dorothy Quincannon (Jessica Lange), retired femme fatale and Clare's mother, tries to hire Marlowe for an ancillary investigation into the same missing man. Marlowe refuses the offer, instead embarking on a trek through glamorous Old Hollywood to unravel the secret to the missing man's whereabouts. Though Neeson's physique is showing its age, he's still an intimidatingly large unit with a face that looks as if it was carved from a mountain, lending credibility to the bareknuckle nature of Marlowe's investigational tactics, though Marlowe himself does remark "I'm too old for this sh**" after breaking a chair across a thug's back. But Neeson action movie fans, don't despair. That moment of clarity is soon forgotten when the next group of thugs appears.
