Movie Reviews

A Gem of Character Study and Well-Developed Scripts
M. S. Williams | TX, USA | 05/09/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Unlike other reviewers, I found this series to be a gem of character study and well-developed scripts. Scenes and emotions were not rushed, assumed, presumed, or glossed over in the typical Hollywood-fast-food style of film or television.

Instead, watch this series for a complete circle of a love triangle that takes its sweet and moving time to let each character be themselves. This is not for the weak-kneed emotional rejects, either, as the script is unafraid to wander into emotions and themes with deeper meanings than "boy meets girl and after a few bumps, gets the girl".

The cast is beautiful, as well. Top-notch acting from all the leads and supporting cast are to be found here. If you are ready for something new in the romantic series department, take a slow journey in this drama and explore the ups and downs of a complex love triangle.

Now, in detail: detective-of-the-people Choi Sang-hyun travels from Korea to Prague to find his ex-girlfriend, Kim Hye-joo, enlisting the aid of diplomat and (unknownst-to-our-hero) Presidential daughter Yoon Jae-hee in exchange for running in a marathon with her. Jae-hee's ex-lover, Ji Young-woo, arrives in Prague just as the the dectective and the diplomat discover that they have more in common than being Korean and winning a marathon together.

Back in Korea, Detective Choi struggles with dating a diplomat, a woman far above his social scale, and with Yoon Jae-hee's secret waiting in the background, finds himself working alongside and liking her ex, Ji Young-woo, who is adamant in winning Yoon Jae-hee back. In typical Korean drama fashion, there are highs to laugh and cherish, and lows to cry and work through as you finish out the series. The ending is worth the wait and pays off all the dividends with a few twists.

Reasons to watch: Detective Choi's mastery of one Czech phrase, Yoon Jae-hee's bravery and cowardice pulling her between two excellent men devoted to loving her, and Ji Young-woo's loyalty flowering to maturity. Well, let's make that every scene with Detective Choi.

Reasons not to watch: if you are the impatient, Hollywood-brown-nosing fast-food television junkie that can't think deeper than 41 or 90 minutes of romantic comedic or dramatic fluff. Just go back and watch Friends and rest those last three brain cells you are clinging to."
VERY GOOD

"WHAT ALL THIS ABOUT UGLY ACTORS? KIM MIN JOON WHO PLAYED A VERY CHARISMATIC GANG LEADER IN ( THE HIT DRAMA DAMO) AND FILM STAR JEON DO YEON ( UNTOLD SCANDAL & SHOOT FOR THE STARS) ARE VERY ATTRACTIVE AND PROFESSIONAL ACTORS. I SAY BUY THIS SERIES AND YOU WILL ENJOY IT."
