Forget Breaking Bonaduce or The Surreal Life. Ewan McGregor has made a celebrity reality series that's entertaining without having to be called a guilty pleasure. Long Way Round is a documentary detailing the 20,000-mile m... more »otorcycle trip he took around the world with best friend Charley Boorman over 115 days. Their trip took them from London through locales such as Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Siberia, and Canada, to name a few, before ending in New York. Armed with a cameraman, McGregor and Boorman encounter separation anxiety from their families; a shifty stranger (later revealed to be Mafia) who leads them through winding dark corridors to a posh hotel room; delays at international borders; hosts who offer them Fear Factor-level animal parts for dinner; injuries, equipment breakdowns, and more. The pair also film their own video diaries, in which they voice concerns and frustrations. The result is an emotional, rich breadth of experiences, from the hardship of logistical setbacks paired with the joy of visiting the children of Chernobyl and encountering hospitable locals who insist on escorting them wherever they go. McGregor and Boorman also make witty emcees, cheerfully upbeat even when they wonder aloud if one of their gun-happy hosts is a psycho murderer. The seven-episode series, originally aired on Bravo, concludes with their emotional ride into the Big Apple and some surprises for the pair courtesy of the show's producers. The two-disc DVD includes some can't miss deleted scenes, including McGregor's story about being confused for Jude Law, and a clip of McGregor attempting Jedi mind tricks on commuters who keep stopping in the road to peer at his broken-down bike ("These aren't the bikes you're looking for."). Long Way Round may have been an arduous once-in-a-lifetime experience, but you can't help but hope McGregor and Boorman suit up for another road trip someday. -- Ellen A. Kim.« less

"I love this show and highly recommend it to pretty much everyone who has the travelling bug. I would have given it 5 stars based on the merits of the show alone...EXCEPT saying that this is "uncut" is misleading. In fact, the DVD producers will be "double-dipping" later in 2006.
It is important to note that they released a longer special edition of this show on DVD in the UK last week. So now there are actually 10 extended episodes of this show that are available as a three disc set everywhere else in the world except North America at this point in time.
The region one disc being released in North America in December 2005 only has 7 episodes (on two discs). They are planning to release this 10 episode version later in 2006.
If this doesn't faze you, and you need to get this NOW then I still think you'll enjoy the heck out of the 7 episode version.
However, if you can hold out for the 10 episode version (or buy the PAL version from Amazon UK), then I'd strongly advise you to do that instead.
Consider this fair warning!"

"I'm so happy that this series is finally being released on DVD in the US! The US fans of this show have been on the hook for too long! I first heard about the show when I was late-night channel surfing one night and saw Ewen and Charley on The Tonight Show. I was definitely intrigued about the premise and the adventure, but I had no idea when/where it would be on TV. So one night, I luckily happened to flip to Bravo and there it was. Long Way Round had quickly become one of my favorite reality shows. It was extremely fun to watch, intriguing, and the scenery was beautiful. You can sense the love and respect that Ewen and Charley had for one another, and for everyone else involved in the show, as well as the countries they were cruising through. This show will never be duplicated. Long Way Round should have had more publicity and support before it had aired and I hope that the longer version of the show gets showcased on Bravo again. I was upset when I found out that the show was only 6 episodes long, I had my VCR all ready to record more shows. I guess it's better than nothing! Great job to everyone involved with the show."

"I got tired of waiting for the long version so I went searching. Here's what I found out.. You can order the 10 episode 3-disk DVD from Amazon Canada. Your dollar is worth more and that compensates for the shipping. The original 7 episodes are enhanced with additional footage as well so it's like being on the wonderful journey with Ewan and Charlie for the first time. Enjoy."
