Pretty entertaining to watch this with a few stars that you know. Fonzi directed this!

Get your box of Kleenex ready!
This very entertaining movie rates somewhere between a sniffle and a sob, depending on your tenderness of heart.
Kevin Kline does a fine job as an underemployed, then unemployed architectural model maker who gets replaced by CAD. His diagnosis of terminal cancer impels him to work on a very short bucket list: reuniting with his son and building the actual house he's always dreamed of.
Kristen Scott Thomas, Hayden Christensen, Jena Malone, and Mary Steenburgen all do great work as a supporting cast.

I had pretty well written Hayden Christensen off as a horrible actor after Star Wars, but turns out he actually has some talent. I was really impressed with his performance in the movie, even though he should have been out shown by Kevin Kline. Actually everyone put further some great performances throughout the film.
The story is moving, basically Kevin Kline's character is a big jerk who finds out he is dying. The writing gets high marks; I was rather surprised by a lot of things as they unfolded in the film. There is some excellent scenery in the film as well.
I enjoyed the movie though I can't see myself repeating the experience. It is a good movie to trade, but unlikely to stay a permanent feature in your collection.

An architect (Kevin Kline) loses his job and learns that he has terminal cancer all in the same day. He invites his estranged son (Hayden Christensen) to spend the summer with him building a house. The boy, a troubled teen, indeed grows to love his father, but feels betrayed and "tricked into loving him" when he discovers the truth about his father's prognosis. In the meantime, the boy's mother (Kristin Scott Thomas) has to come to grips with her rocky second marriage after falling in love with her first husband again, then learning that he doesn't have much time to live. This is a moving story of redemption and transformation that each character in the film experiences in one way or another.

"Kevin Kline has always been one of my favorite actors. He is good in any role. I purchase movies and watch them many times. This movie is a two-time purchase! I believe it places people in "check" especially when life hits you hard. It's believable. I would recommend this movie, highly."
