If you are expecting just the videos for the tracks on Bob Marley's extremely successful greatest hits CD, you are going to be pleasantly surprised with this DVD. Legend is much more than a simple, video anthology. It is a... more » historical telling of the music of Bob Marley presented in 23 videos, most of which are performances, and a 90-minute documentary. The documentary is a collage of images and video clips put to a running dialogue by Marley. Unless you are very familiar with the Jamaican dialect, it is recommended to watch this with the subtitles turned on. Interesting, but there are better documentaries out there (e.g., The Bob Marley Story: Caribbean Nights). It is the live performances, however, that make this DVD worth its weight in gold. Every person remotely interested in his music owes it to himself to witness Bob Marley perform on stage. Musically, Marley is as close to perfection as any artist can hope to achieve. But as a performer, he transcends beyond the secular pop star status to the mythic leader of a movement. Notable performances include eight tracks from the famous Live at the Rainbow recording (June 1977) and the early Wailer footage from The Old Grey Whistle Test recorded for the BBC in 1973 ("Stir It Up" and "Concrete Jungle"). They are simply hypnotic. The sound on the DVD, for the most part, is clear, crisp, and flawless ("Could You Be Loved" could have been touched up a little bit). A nice feature is the "playlist," allowing the viewer to play the videos in any order desired. All in all, a great package for a true legend. --Rob Bracco« less

"OK, I am a huge Bob Marley fan and I have all his albums on CD, but for me this is the prize of the whole lot. If you have a DVD player or a DVD drive on your computer, then you owe it to yourself to get this little disc. What do you get? 22 of his best songs, mostly in live performances, but with some video renditions, plus a ninety minute "musicmentary" that has a few more songs and snatches of performances all over the world, linked by an interview with Marley, and lots of fascinating photography of Jamaican life and landscape. It even includes scenes of Haile Selassie's rapturous reception in Jamaica in 1966.The video for Natural Mystic has fascinating footage of the scenes at Marley's 1981 funeral that is almost worth the cost of admission alone, and then you will see plenty of life in Trenchtown too, that gives you a real feel for the milieu that gave life to this music.Lots of footage of Bob too, including him doing some tricks with a soccer ball, as well as loads of performances and a variety of dreadlocked hairstyles.Watching this makes me feel 25 years younger. For the price, which is hardly more than a CD, you would be one crazy baldhead if you did not buy it."

"If you a fan of reggae or it's most well known artist, Bob Marley, than you have to have this disc. For some unknown reason I had passed this disc up thinking it was the CD by the same name. How dumb or more wrong could I be. This is the goods and ata bargain price. A treasure chest of Marley videos that features thirteen of is best songs awaits the reggae music fan. The color reproduction and sound quality is nothing short of outstanding. Play this disc on your home system for a truly incredible experience. Besides the great music videos you also get the documentary "Time Will Tell" in splendid sight and sound. I have the original on old school vhs (remember those antiquated vcr's?) and it had more than it's share of play but by comparison the dvd quality is so much better. Crank it up on your home system or even on your computer, assuming you have a good set of speakers and sub woofer, and you are in for a real treat. The rasta man will blow you away. The footage in the documentary is excellent and features original Wailers members Peter Tosh and Bunny Livingston in rare form. See Bob Marley playing soccer, getting philosopical on avariety of topics in his interview and sadly see him deteriorating before your eyes in his final days in physical presence but seem even stronger in human spirit. He was a man that only passes this way not very often. An additional highlight of this great deal is the ability to create a playlist from the videos for whenever you are in the mood for some Bob Marley. This playlist can be changed whenever or songss skipped as you like. I find this feature very cool as I keep this disc in the five disc rotation on the dvd player always ready. This way while viewing and pausing a different movie for the popcorn break or whatever a little music can lighten up your soul . There are many highlights on this disc but one is definitely the accoustic version solo of "Redemption Song" that is one heart wrenching performance. Check the charismatic Honorable Robert Nesta Marley O.M. and witness the natural mystic on tour, in interviews and in videos perpetuating his legacy and legend. Highly recommended."

"I have seen most of the Marley videos and this award winning documentery rocks the most! There is a LOT of Bob in this one, and the famous scene from the "Concert for Peace". The information and the music are awesome. One of my all time fav music videos! It received some sort of documentary film award for excellence."

"The opening scene is so very touching, from then on i was glued and my eyes never left the tv screen. I never thought it was possible but i loved Bob even more after watching this dvd. it really affected my life. There are just too many personal and touching scenes to go into here but all I can say is Please do yourself a favor and get this. Now I can understand why this dvd won so many accolades. It's worth its price in gold. Get it now!"

"This video is not really a documentary, it is only bob performing each song on Legend (his greatest hits cd). The video also has a cool short clip of bob performing "want more" from rastaman vibration. Basically all it is performances. If you want a good documentary get Rebel Music the dvd or caribbean nights:the bob marley story."
