After years of gulling the faithful, cleric Cotton Marcus (Patrick Fabian) feels remorse and decides to expose his chicanery through filming a documentary. With a crew in tow, Marcus arrives at the Louisiana farm of devout Louis Sweetzer, who believes that his daughter, Nell, is possessed. When the usual stunts fail, he realizes that he is face-to-face with real evil and must summon true faith to protect Nell, the others and himself from demonic power.

not bad, i dont like these documentary style movies, but i wanted to watch this one because i like one of the main actors in the film (i have seen him in bad guy parts and i always think hes a terrible bad guy, he just has a naturally nice personna, his character in this is perfect for him), and i wanted the back story before seeing the second part. it does a good job with connecting you to the characters and it relies on that instead of dramatic special effects. i took a chance even after Paul H. ruined it by not warning people that his review is one big spoiler, and im glad i did. crappy blair witch type ending, but good development of characters, and good backstory to have if youre going to see the second part.

One of the better mainstream horror films to be released ecently. A tv preacher reveals that he has lost his faith and has been performing exorcisms for years to a documentary crew. The doc crew plans on filming his last exorcism and the preacher shows them how it's done (smoke & mirrors). Problem is this exorcism turns out to be real. Very creepy & disturbing film that requires the viewer to pay attention to what's happening. Not for people who's idea of great horror is the standard Hollywood bs. Worth checking out if you're a fan of the genre.

So I rented this movie from Redbox thinking that, at least if it was bad, I could get it out of my house. I am SO glad that I rented this one, as it was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. It starts out promising. A young Revrend is telling the camera about his life and how he has lost his faith and how exorcisms have been performed by many religions. He decides to let a film crew follow him on a exorcism to prove how fake it is only to find out that the subject is actually posessed by a demon. It then kills him and the film crew. I just saved you 1.5 hours that you would have otherwise wasted watching this terrible garbage.

Very "Blair Witch Project" in its approach (a movie I HATE, even after a 'benefit of the doubt' viewing), it actually has a good premise and managed to pull me into the story...but through most of the runtime, I felt like I was watching lots of "filler" scenes, this movie could've been condensed into an episode of a half hour TV Anthology series (tales from the crypt, darkside, whatever).
The ending had me rolling my eyes big time and yelling at the screen "that's IT?!?!?" My recommendation? Go rewatch Will Friedkin's 'The Exorcist' again!

If you didn't like the "you are there" documentary style of The Blair Witch Project, you won't enjoy this film. The substance of the film was solid, focusing on the minister performing the exorcism. His mocking the faith he professes to embrace was quite disturbing. The storyline is imaginative, although the last 5 minutes were so over-the-top that it lost credibility. Gave this one 3.5 out of 5 stars. Worth a viewing.
