A couple of men who apparently come in contact with the dreaded ginger root when their bodies are snatched the lesbians shoot them. Oh and the heroine who really isn't a heroine betrays her BFF. Ludicrous dialogue, Junior High School-level acting, bizarre directing, nonsequitur transitions, gratuitious sex scenes that aren't even good, musical score that plays continuously over dialogue ... there's no end to the marvel of "Invasion of the Pod People." Certain scenes have to be seen to be believed: An intruder holds the heroine at gunpoint, and the heroine's reaction seems to be from the script of a different movie. Characters are shot and die without apparent wounds. Unexplained shots of thunderstorms appear between scenes in bizarre transitions. The entire movie seems to be an excuse for gratuitious sex scenes, but the sex is boring and brief, often lacking nudity. The pods themselves are literally presented as tiny potted ginger root plants, signalling that the film is intended as tongue-in-cheek, yet there's very little other camp humor or snark at all. It truly seems as though Ed Wood has risen from the dead and is working for Asylum Films." Acting, plotline, props etc. are just bad. And who knew Ginger plants could metamorphise into an exact duplicate of a human? I just thought they were good with sushi.
But I found myself following this movie. Wondering when the next person would be taken over. There is gratious sex and not excessive but I still thought it was as expected in a grade C movie. There were some points that made me actual worry about a character - hard to ever say you were scared - and I did want the main heroine to escape if for no other reasons than to take more acting lessons. I also agree with the person who referred to them as ugly models. Considering the reputation some of these women were supposed to have - the looked like second-runs from some old porn movie." |
