HORROR COLLECTOR'S SET: Four Film Collection
These sets are usually a hit or miss for me. The films involved this time around are MORTUARY, MEMORY, BLOODY MARY, and SALVAGE. The two best of the bunch were MEMORY and SALVAGE. They alone were worth the price of the dvd.
MORTUARY had some problems. When you see Tobe Hooper's name on the screen, you automatically have high standards for the film. Sadly, this wasn't the case. The movie suffered from an identity crisis. Half of the time, it was comedic horror and the other half, straight horror. The straight horror sucked, but the comedic horror was pretty funny. My favorite scene was the mom in the basement, trying to embalm the bodies while using a textbook. EMBALMING FOR DUMMIES or a correspondence course, it was a hoot, especially she hits the right spot, but forgets to clamp the iv. Body fluids everywhere!
MEMORY was more of a thriller. Billy Zane encounters a powder from an aboriginal tribe that allows one to access the memories of your relatives. Unfortunately, someone in the family was a serial killer of children. There are several familiar faces, including Dennis Hopper and Ann Margaret. By the end of the movie, all loose ends are neatly tied. A very nice little thriller.
BLOODY MARY, well it's wasn't the worst I've ever seen, it wasn't the best. BLOODY MARY started off pretty strong and had an interesting storyline, but midway it fell apart.
SALVAGE was more intriguing. A young girl is picked up by a stranger and is savagely beaten and killed. Then she wakes up, and the nightmare starts again, like a terror-filled GROUNDHOG DAY. Sometimes the situations are a little different, but she always dies in the end. Can she ever figure out the reason for her torment?
So, there it is. For me, MEMORY AND SALVAGE were worth the price of the disc. The other two are just padding. Enjoy!
