Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, the Grateful Dead... and Hanson? If the idea of the young pop-rock phenoms taking the stage at San Francisco's fabled Fillmore Auditorium--where Hendrix, Joplin, a... more »nd so many other immortals once bathed in the spotlight--should strike you as sacrilegious, well, perhaps you're selling Hanson short. For while brothers Isaac (guitar), Taylor (keyboards) and Zachary (drums) Hanson are boys, they are certainly not a "boy band"; the teenyboppers who packed the Fillmore for this June 2000 show may swoon over their wholesome good looks, but Hanson eschew choreographed dance moves, fancy duds, designer haircuts, and the other boy-band trappings in favor of (gasp!) their music. For one thing, the Hanson brothers are real musicians; augmented by a bass player and second guitarist and keyboardist, they offer ample evidence in the course of this 12-song concert that they can both play and sing (especially Taylor, who handles the lion's share of the lead vocals) like seasoned rock & roll pros. And while their self-penned songs may not exactly change the world, Hanson has a knack for filling them with irresistible hooks, from the opening "You Never Know" through "MMMBop," the hit that started it all, and other, more recent numbers like "If Only" and "Next Time Around" (entertaining videos for the latter two are principal among the DVD's bonus features). They also throw in a cover of Steppenwolf's "Magic Carpet Ride," a nod to the '60s that shows that Hanson was fully aware of the Fillmore legacy. It all makes for a righteously groovy experience, dudes. --Sam Graham« less

"My 10-year old daughter and I are HUGE Hanson fans, so we were tickled when DirecTV dedicated the entire month of September to the FreeView event which is the source of this video. In all honesty, prior to viewing this concert, I had not actually picked up the boys latest CD (This Time Around) -- I know, just how big a fan could I be without it? Well, this concert made me realize just how much I'd been missing by NOT having it. I've always enjoyed I, T and Z's ability to truly entertain, but to watch them do it as maturing (dare I say SEXY) young men is better than ever. Taylor sounds awesome (as always), but not enough credit is given to Ike's soulful and mature voice or Zac's rocking drumming. These guys love their music and love their fans -- it's obvious. This is not your kid's Hanson -- this is pure, unadulterated rock and roll, presented in sweaty, gritty, living color for you to watch over and over and over (which I did on DirecTV). Crank it up on your big screen. It's the perfect antidote to the daily blues; guaranteed to put a permanent smile on your face and a tap in your feet! Only, be careful, you might end up buying TigerBeat magazine for yourself, instead of your 10-year old daughter! Bottom line: MUST HAVE IT. But two so you'll have a good one to replace it when you wear it out. On second thought, maybe this is the excuse you've been looking for -- pick up the DVD version of this video and buy a player for it!"

"I highly recommend that if you are a Hanson fan of any age, you really should get this video. I loved their performance at the Fillmore! I saw the show when it was aired through-out the month of August, and I have to say that it was one of their best performances I have ever seen! With this video, you will feel like you are right there in the audience watching the whole show happen, only this time you can pause, stop, and rewind at all your favorite parts. You are also so close to the stage that you can see their sweat! So if you want to see them over and over again, Live From The Fillmore, then you really should order this video now!"

"I took my 18 month old son to see Hanson at the Fillmore theater. And what an experience it was. We were both captivated throughout the entire concert. We especially enjoyed the song RunAway Run - it was breathtaking. Hanson @ The Fillmore will definetly be one of our fovorite videos. I recommend this video to all the music fans out there!"

"Even twenty and thirty-somethings will enjoy this dvd! I watched this concert on DirecTV, and was so impressed with these guys! I was never a big Hanson fan, but this concert changed my mind. They're not teenie-boppers anymore! The concert showcases their talented music and lyric writing skills, as well as their ability to play instruments. The songs are from "This Time Around", as well as a classic rock cover, and the standard "Mmmbop". My favorite tracks from this concert are "Hand in Hand," and "Love Song" A sure crowd pleaser!"

"Don't dismiss them just yet as just another "boy band" amongst the crowd. This video proves the statement "Hanson rocks". This video shows their sheer talent and love for music throughout the course of a concert. Doing such songs as "Magic Carpet Ride", "A song to sing" which often brings down the mood of the room with it's melancholy rhythm and amazing lyrics, and of course the inevitable "Mmmbop". This video shows Hanson, raw and live, showing them as you've never seen before. If you had your doubts about Hanson being a real band with real talent then this video will answer your question. They are a real band who proves just how much of a band they truly are with this video. It's a MUST have for all who are wanting to experience a true, geniuenly talented group of young men."
