Movie Reviews

Pretty solid Slasher Film
Tim Janson | Michigan | 05/24/2006
(3 out of 5 stars)

"Wow...a low budget horror film that actually delivers the goods. I may faint dead away! But seriously, Hallowed is a solid slasher film. It's is very reminiscent of the kind of 80's slasher films that really gave birth to the genre in the first place. While it is a bit derivative of Halloween plot-wise, it still finds its way to being a solid horror film. A boy named Gabriel is witness to his father murdering his mother, driving him insane. He's locked away in an insane asylum for 20 years. Now Gabriel is loose and believes that he has been sent by God to kill as many people as possible.

While the cast is pretty inexperienced I thought they did a decent job. Gabriel isn't your typical, menacing slasher/killer type in terms of his look which is a refreshing change I think. He was more the guy next door...clean cut, dressed well, etc. Rich lava does a fine job as the crazed religious zealot murderer. The atmosphere is very creepy in parts and is shot quite well on an obviously limited budget. The main "stalkee" is Cassie played by Rosslyn Roberson who is decent looking and plays the typical hot babe in distress. Definitely a film worth a rent. Solid...inventive kill scenes and decent gore effects.
